Hello everyone,

Could anyone recommend wihich airfolis are most commonly used for a QM15 pylon racers

Im buliding a F5D "type" plane for an OS15 engine but dont know which airfoil would be good for this kind of plane.

Regards

See

http://www.mh-aerotools.de/airfoils/

The MH50 has no camber and the MH56 has the most (~0.6)

If you want straigh tline speed MH 50, best turns MH 56. Lots of things affect the overall results, but the MH's will get you started

MH 56 looks suited for Q500, I would start with the MH 54.

buena suerte

I don't see MH56 in the listing..

What QM15 are you building? I have a couple of old kits still, (well, they're at a friend's house now) but might be able to get a picture or two of the ends of the cores.

I have a Folkerts and a Pole Kitty that haven't been built yet. They were both pretty good planes back when QM15 was going on.

OK - found the MH56.. it's too thin to be a legal Q500 wing at only 10.5% thick. They have to be at least 1 3/16" (1.188") thick, or closer to 12 percent.

Actually, you can use the MH 56. If you don't have XFoil, Profili 2 or Compufoil to manipulate airfoils shape or analyze them, just play with some image editing software to change the aspect ratio. Yes, it will slightly change the characteristics of the airfoil but not enough to make a diference if you don't change the aspect ratio of the original image by more than 5%

Most family of airfoils like the NACA are just that, the same airfoil blown up or down in the Y axis to get a diferent thickness.
I don't know how many times I was asked to give an airfoil and several times I had to take the bad template of my original Quickie airfoil and retrace it with a french curve and send it to my friends. Both Joe Llanos and Victor Diaz have produce several wicket fast Quickies with them.
I wonder how the old my Super T (1990-1998) airfoil which I won a few hundred races with would do today versus the new crop of laminar airfoils?

If I was to make a Q500 today, I stick with the S8064.
