I'm getting back into the R/C Car sport after about 20 years gone. SO much has changed! My little brother passed away recently and I am going to rebuild this car as we talked about doing it in the past. I can't seem to identify what brand it is so I can order replacement parts and get this going. I have a few pictures of it and would certainly appreciate any help. It has a belt driven AWD and many carbon fiber parts. I'm not sure if the carbon fiber parts were upgrades or came standard on this car. Either way, I can't do anything with it until I can identify it. So come on and help me get back into the sport!

The only suggestion I have it to look around eBay in the on-road section, by the looks of it I would think Losi or Team Associated?

I've done that exact thing. I've also been checking every car manufacturer site and their archives and still no luck. I just bought an HPI RS4 but I want to have both nitro and electric. I really wish someone could identify this.

It may help if you take a few more pics of the car to help identifiy it.

Ok I took the advice of the poster which said perhaps more pictures would help. Here they are:

Sorry to hear about your little brother....what a great way to remember him though!

I wish I knew what it was, but I will look around and see what I can come up with.

VERY nice car!

Looks like it could be a Losi XXX sedan not sure which model but look at some of the parts on the car maybe you can get a part number off one and identify it that way. Looks like upgraded chassis for one of the xxx models

I'll do some more research over the next couple of nights to help you out. In the meantime I'm nearly certain that it's NOT the Losi XXX-4 because they used that "innovative" 3 belt design which this car doesn't seem to have. Also, Associated TC3 and TC4's are shaft drive.

My first thoughts are some version of a HPI RS4 or possibly a Tamiya. There are a lot of similar looking cars out there so it's difficult to identify this one. This is a fairly typical chassis design which many manufacturers utilize.

Okay. Great tip on looking for part #'s. The ONLY part name/number on the entire thing (while it's assembled) is Yokomo on the belt. This is promising, I think.

Start looking at old Yokomo sedans. That's probably what it is.

I think that they have a pretty large database of Yokomo cars at Tamiyaclub.com

Ebay has alot of sellers selling knock offs these days so this touring car is probably a knock off. I hate knock offs because you mostly never find replacement parts for them.

I don't think you would see that much carbon fiber on one of those knock-offs.  And the fact that it has a Yokomo belt showed that his brother must have been pretty serious into RC.

I am guessing a Yokomo MR4TC

http://www.rcracing.com/Page.cfm?InfoID=1494

Take a look at the control arms, they seem to match

Yeah it's definitely not a knock-off. My brother and I were the same: we never bought entry-level things. Instead, we bought the best and then we'd just plain get bored of it and come back to whatever it is off and on. So I'm 99.9% sure he dropped some decent coin on whatever this car is. Thanks for all the suggestions and the help in looking. I've been searching everywhere and there aren't many Hobby Shops here where I live in FL. Kind of strange but the sport doesn't survive in my town for some reason. The county is against them putting in tracks. Go figure. Anyways, I'll keep looking and I hope some of you do too. Thanks again.

Bingo!
I can look at the shocks and tell they are yokomo, the shock caps give the whole thing away, those caps are yokomo.

What model though I spent 2 hours last night on google searching for Yokomo electric belt drive awd cars onroad and many variations of those terms to no avail. I do believe it's a Yokomo, now the million dollar question is what model is it? I already see I need to replace a few things on it but have no idea what it is or what parts to order.

Additionally, since I've been absent for so long from the rc scene, what's the deal with brushless motors now? Do they perform much better or slightly better than brushed motors? I also notice that you need a different type of ESC for a brushless. I have a vague idea of the differences, I would just like to hear real world experience with brushed vs brushless. I want this car to FLY!

I think the car started its life as a MR4-TC and the carbon fiber parts were added later. The transition form carbon fiber to plastic doesn't look right. Do a search on the yokomo MR4-TC (not BD or SD) and I'm sure you can find a better shot to compare yours too. The front control arms are unique looking and I think they give it away.

The number one reason I went brushless is less maintenance.

It certainly does have the rear gear and belt housing of the MR4-TC. I suppose my brother put more hop up parts on it if it is in fact, the MR4. I will now look into hop ups and see if I can find the ones on the car now. I will post how it goes but this is the most promising lead so far. Thank you.

I've done some more research and for a moment I was considering it to be a Schumacher or Tamiya, however, I now concur with "brrneon."

It is a Yokomo MR4-TC. I can't tell exactly how old it is as Yokomo has offered the same design since 2005-2006.

Yours is clearly assembled with carbon fiber components, and again, based on my research these were optional parts as the standard kits featured composite parts.

As far as your electronics are concerned, here are some general bits of knowledge to help you along your way:

- Brushless motors are the "hip" new thing are are definitely the way to go. Less maintenance, more power. Also, they do require a special ESC compatible with brushless motors.

- "LiPo" or Lithium Polymer batteries are becoming increasingly popular and are practically the standard now. Compared to 6 cell NiMh and NiCd packs they offer increased voltage / discharge rates (more power) and greater Mah capacity (run time). They do require a compatible charger for safe operation.

- 2.4ghz have basically become standard as well. They have become more affordable in the last couple of years which makes FM systems less appealing. It's virtually impossible to find an AM system anymore as well except maybe with RTR packages. They have superior range and reliablity and comsume less power.

Visit your local shop and see what they have to offer. Have fun!

Thanks a ton drumin nut. I have been looking for parts for this car and I haven't found too many yet. I have looked into the electronics aspects which you posted and you're right, it's the "standard" now it seems. I need a rear bell housing (I think that's what it's called) for this car as I found a small crack. I also would love to upgrade to anodized aluminum to give the car a more fresh look. I have a feeling once I'm done with this car, it's going to zoom zoom! Thank you again everyone for the help and if you know a place that I haven't found that carries parts for this particular car, please let me know.

I made a thread in the on-road section on this site if you want to take a look at it.
Yes I have a yokomo car as well, but it's got a saddle pack chassis instead.
Here's a link to the thread.
