I am seriously considering on tackling a fountain winter project. I have definitely considered the sonic racing Titan at $390AU but the shipping I am told is $500 US not including insurance plus I will get dinged by UPS for another $150 in brokerage and taxes into Canada. The Bonzi 64 is the next contender at $390US plus a possible $100 for shipping and of course the $150 in brokerage and taxes into Canada if shipped via UPS.

Personally I like everything about the Titan by Sonic Racing including its price at $390AU. The 60" lenght is perfect and the positioning of the stepped hull in my opinion is dead on scale look. Its performance is also to be commended whether it is on calm or rough water. My only Dislike about the boat is its width at 18" and of couse the price to ship into Canada.
The Bonzi 64 unfortunately is what I am stuck ON at the moment as far as choice is concerned. At $390US its a bargain. Dislikes on this boat are flat bow deck, Canopy not so hot, and placement of steps on the hull should really be further apart and deeper like the Titan's, lastly the extra 4'.

I have e-mailed Dreamin Hemi to ask him if he would build a fountain for me with the specs I gave him. If he takes on the project I wish to call it Dreamin Fountain. If the answer is NO then its back to the Bonzi 64. I would appreciate more info, video, and pics if anyone here owns a 64. Information is hard to come by on this boat even from Bonzi.

Thanks for the reply, nice boat. Not much info on it though or spec and I am really set on a stepped hull. It isnt by chance the PI fountain or is it? Keep it coming though.

I think it's a copy of the PI fountain.

I am not sure if it is a copy of PI or from elsewhere. I believe Majorsmackdown purchased the molds. PI have made plenty of copies of others work and I would NEVER try to buy from Blackhawkhobbies/PI any more.

I personally like the look of the Majorsmackdown fountain. I have a PI fountain and wish it had better air intakes.

While the hull lacks steps it is a very good sized hull with decent manners. If you cannot buy from Danny then the Major Smackdown Fountain is tough to beat for the price.

I have never been tickled by the Bonzi founatin - just seems to be lacking something and while paint and windshields help - it just falls short. The MHZ fountains are beautifully scaled - though priced like the real ones!! http://imageevent.com/justaddwata/myboats/comparisonshots636565

Any interest at all in the GTX?? While not a fountain it is stepped, good sized, responsive to smaller power plants, and reasonably priced. Just thought I would put it out there

The link above shows a comparison of the Expresscraft GTX, MHZ XXX Muscle, and MHZ Rio Roses fountain. I should do a comparison with the 57" fountain in there as well!!

I love the Fountain from Majorsmackdown but I live in Italy and shipping costs are the same as the hull cost ... +20% of italian duties....too much, like 460€ !
The only Mhz Fountain i like it's the XXX Muscle shipped is more or less the same 429€+60€ ...in Europe you can't find cheap hulls...except http://europe.shipwrightshop.com/index1.html (164£ for my Apache 56 + 16 for shipping so 200€ shipped ! ) He told me he produce under Aeromarine licence.

The only thing i don't like is the stepped vee handling...look at this video, i don't know if is it only a problem of hull or a bad setup of the Z drives.

Think it is in need of some fine tuning. If I were to hazard a guess I would say it is a new setup (running plastic props - I hope it is a new setup). Steps dont normally attribute any real adverse handling issues - unless the steps are out of alignment - then you may see a boat that runs wet or nose high (depending on the alignment issue). Steps air out the hull and add to the efficiency of the boat passing through/over the water.

Thanks for chiming in guys. I really appreciate the replies.

isola_d_elba2007,
It looks to be a great running boat no doubt, but I already have a non stepped fountain (Rio 51).
http://www.youtube.com/user/01VIPER27#p/a/u/1/omU59wa6j9M

Justaddwata,
Am I hearing you say that YOU DO NOT OWN A BONZI 64! I am truly surprised if that is the case with all that collection of yours. I was actually using your photo album to make decisions. The following choices are my deciding factors and the pictures really do the talking. On the first picture 1747, I believe that it is the MH$ Popeye Firewater – 1, MH$ XXX Muscle – 2, and the GTX Expresscraft - 3 all look good.
Of the 3
-I like the canopy, transom , hull, and strakes layout of the MH$ Firewater best
-I like the stepped hull spacing of the GTX Expresscraft best
-I like the width of the MH$ XXX best

For Bows
-I like the Dreamin’ CS as well as the Hurricane’s bow deck line.

Hey Dreamin’ Hemi, care to chime in…

The plan is to put a WHH Twin M6 with an m-1570 splitter to it or a WD200 Gearbox 3 if it were not so expensive. I wont mention the rest until I have a hull.

What about a single RCMK or SIKK ? I red on this forum you can get 42mph on a No mercy with a single sikk and a No Mercy is quite as big as an XXX Muscle (158cm vs 161cm) non stepped and much more big (48 cm).

This is the thread :

Lighter boat and cheaper engine!

Look at this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1Ci_SpEPSU

isola_d_elba2007,
No doubt that a single stock engine can bring larger boats to a plane but why stop there. I see a lot more people putting twins on anything over 57" and so I am following that route as well.

I will have a large scale fountain one way or another by next season and this is one reason that is driving me.
Here is one at 60 MPH
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYx74ohHDvs
Here is another at 70 MPH
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-i57gA7KF00&feature=channel

Justaddwata,
When you say, "I have never been tickled by the Bonzi founatin - just seems to be lacking something and while paint and windshields help - it just falls short." do you mean lack of hull performance on water or lack of scale appeal? Please advise.

It depends on your wallet. The Sonicracinc cat has twin twins so 1600$/2000$ only for engines , then FOUR pipes, etc... i think it's a 8000$ project
The first it's a 60" mono of Sonicracing, i don't think other hulls have a so good handling at that speed.

How about a fountain with a single turbine. Single drive or two drives you choose. If you do decide to order from Sonic PM me and I might be interested in some of his products. We could share the shipping expenses.

isola_d_elba2007,
That is my driving force, hit 60 MPH with a 60" using a twin with counter rotating drives.

Peerpsi,
Not sure if you read this "I am seriously considering on tackling a fountain winter project. I have definitely considered the sonic racing Titan at $390AU but the shipping I am told is $500 US not including insurance plus I will get dinged by UPS for another $150 in brokerage and taxes into Canada." That's almost $1100 CDN just for a hull and even If I split shipping with you I am still looking at a minimum $900 CDN just for a hull. I prefer to use that money on a modified twin engine.

For that kind of shipping it would almost be worth buying an air ticket and bringing one back as luggage. I have carted a few boats back from Aust with me in past trips.

I am just not terribly sold on the look for the Bonzi. Just looks a little large in the cockpit or something. I toyed with the idea at one point but held off.

What are your thoughts on the MH$ GTX hull? A bit more coin but some beautiful lines.

Exactly my point! As for the GTX I only like the stepped hull spacing on it plus the boat looks too tall on the side and the transom looks so boxy. I would have to practically bling that up with a pair of Trimax to somewhat hide the boxy look of the transom. The Bonzi on the other hand looks sleeker as it is only 7" tall but I'm not really sold on the bow, canopy, and step spacing.

You could get Danny to build the whole thing up for you, then it wouldn't be just the hull. You'd have a RTR boat & that way the shipping isn't such a large proportion of the cost & may make you feel better about spending so much. But if you want to build it yourself that may not be an option. The Titan is a nice hull.

Here's a yellow one, just to tempt J.A.W.

Love Dannys work though - one of these days I will get up there and meet him.

Wife had asked about getting up north but will probably be staying nearer Sydney with family.

For as much as I would love to - bringing back boats for someone else is a nerve racking experience. If it is your own and something happens it is one thing - but when it belongs to someone else you have a lot more on your shoulders (I have done it before for some guys I run with - should have seen the boxes when baggage handlers were done with them!!). And writing fragile on them is invitation for carnage.

I'm from Holland so I do not fully understand what you want.
Do you want a boat that is 100% scale , like a boat team Fountain uses for real, or do you want a hull
and build it in Fountain-style/design ?
In that case : The Skater from MHZ ??

Definitely Fountain, after all it did say fountain project. The Titan is my prime choice simply because it is 60" and it has the most information and video of its performance. disadvantages is shipping cost. MHZ lines are great but cadillacs in price.

I have been trying to get info from Bonzi on how much to ship the 64 Fountain to my address and I have not had an answer yet. I e-mailed them last month if they could show me a picture of the bottom of their 64 and to date I have not had an answer. At the moment its looking to be a hard time just getting info from Bonzi.

I've emailed Dreamin Hemi to build one for me but I have not receive an answer from him as well.

Does anybody have a picture of the Bonzi 64 bottom, videos too if any?

What would be the general consensus of everyone's experience with Bonzi? I have not had a answer from them. Does Bonzi give out information readily or do they only talk to you if you are buying? They have a terrible customer service!

On the other hand, I may have myself a fabricator that is considering the project.

If at first you dont succeed try again.

I have only had need to call bonzi a time or two. I got no reply after leaving messages so I would call until they answered. They were helpful on the phone though.
