Armistice Day

They shall not grow old as we who are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
WE WILL REMEMBER THEM.

Click on the following link at 11:00 http://www.ww1-ww2-commemorations.com/gb/ww1-commemorations/belgique1_gb.htm

This is for all the fallen of all wars of all nations not just for the narrow minded ignorant few who believe that only one country was/has ever been responsible for the relative peace we have today.

Thanks for sharing. In the United States the date has been expanded to include remember the veterans from all countries and all wars, called Veterans Day since 1954. Personally, I much prefer having Armistice Day separate so that there is more chance that succeeding generations will remember the history of WWI.

I am in agreement with your statement that many countries are responsible for the peace,After WW I many nations failed to keep the peace leading to WW II,So did we learn from that example, hard to tell considering the The Cold War,the 10'000day war,1st gulf war, present gulf war,and the rise of Islamic Terrorist world wide.So when do the young quit paying for the mistakes of the politicians? We can only Honor those who paid with their lives, but we must lead by example,Peace at what price is still relevant today, will we ever learn...

Peace follows victory. When people begin to understand what Statism is and its history since WWI, it will be become crystal clear how to avoid or minimize such wars in the future.

Ohh, almost forgot. Today, November 10th is another important day in history. It's the United States Marine Corps' Birthday! Happy Birthday USMC!!!

11th November is as it should be a national holiday in France and Belgium, Brussels has a few parades in various places across the city along with the artillery outside the palace of justice to mark the hour this can be heard across the city however the main events in this country are not at the capital but at the battle fields themselves the largest is at “Ypres” Menin Gate, starting in the early 1920’s to this very date every evening at 16:00 hours 365 days a year the “Last Post” is sounded in honour of the fallen

Belgian Army with colour guard

Veterans with the national standard some over 90 years old baring the names of various battles towns and city’s

Belgian SAS and commandoes

More veterans

Belgian resistance

At the tail end of the parade and the only other nation represented for the sacrifices paid in liberating the country was England.

The guy in the purple sash is the King

My gran never had medals like this but then she never served in the resistance

At the end of the guns came the national anthem I can honestly say I have never seen civilians stand to attention before and not a single person moved or walked away until the end

What country can preserve it's liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon & pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants.

=======

And on the eleventh hour, of the eleventh day, of the eleventh month, the guns fell silent.
