I wanted the Tamiya electonics for a Firefly so I harvested them and stuffed an RX18 in the Sherman. It is going to be rebuilt as a M4A1 76mm. I had to trim the chassis a small amount, and get rid of the Tamiya speaker as it would not fit under the M4A1 hull.

The RX 18 seems to handle the Stock Tamiya motors and gears fine. Do I dare say the control is even finer then Stock!!!! Too bad the sounds are crap compared to Tamiya.

Hey YHR;

I was going to wait to get the IR Sherman, but watching the stuff you are doing is giving me second thoughts!

Where can I pick up that Frosted Glass you use to dull coat your tanks?

I cut down the Mato turret, and added an oval loaders hatch. I added some auto body spot filler to the turret to give it the rough casting look.

YHR,

Is there a way to modify the tamiya speaker box to fit under the hull, just wondering because I will eventually buy a Tamiya Sherman, and want to kit bash the upper hull and suspension from the Mato, (taking advice from you to buy both) Oh and it looks great btw

Cheers,
Wade

YHR,
Did you just cut-off the trret ring on the bottom of the turret or more then that. Also, did the turret turning ring fit back in OK? Tank looks great. I did your main guntube mod and it does make it look a 100% better. I just have to try your muzzel brake mod. Thanks for all the info.

I never looked, but perhaps the Tamiya enclosure can be split to make it fit.

Thanks for the idea

I cut the bottom off the turret. Then I removed the 3/8 lip, and then reinstalled the bottom. You also to cut down the mounting posts an equal amount. This plastic cuts real well with a sharp exacto knife. I think heng long is more PVC, this is more like styrene

YHR,

I found these pictures in the M4 Sherman at War book, this tank belongs to a collector and it states that these were produced, but they never were used. I plan on doing the same when I get the funds together for my Tamiya. I was planning on using the Mato vvss but I want this to battle with so will most likely keep the hvss intact, I can live with the inaccuracies, and IMHO I think it looks more mean, with the wider tracks. Sorry for the blurry pics, kinda hard holding the camera steady.

Cheers,
Wade

YHR,
Help help, I need some help. I have my sherm apart and can not figure out just what cuts you made to lower the turret. I am hoping that maybe you took some pics or drew a diagram of your surgery. I really want to lower my Sherm turret, but not to sure how to go about it. As always, Thanks in advance.

YHR,
Did you cut off the turret floor at the top of the ring, then cut the bottom of the ring off the floor and glue the floor back in? Seems like that has to be it as the floor has the mounts for the turret turning gear. I'm really stuck here, and any help would be sooooooooooooo much appreciated.

I cut the ring off where it meets the turret. I then used a set of flush cutters to nip of the plastic ring flush to the lower plate. You have to cut the mounting posts down the same height as the plastic you removed. You then just have to screw the bottom plate back on.

YHR,
Thank you for your reply, After reading your one post on the turret three or four times, I actually figured it out. The prob I have now is loose wires in the turret. Stuff just came out when I seperated the lower and upper halves. I have a blue, a red and a black wire that I have no idea where they go( the wife was watching me make make the turret mod and says if I don't get it running the way it's supposed to. She won't let me buy any more tanks). I need help with the wiring of the turret and hope your the guy to turn too ( I really want to buy the new Panther).

YHR,
OK I was to impatient. I now have two bcak wires from the loaders side and a set of blue and brown from the commanders side ( each two pronged plugs).. I have all operations, except the gun will not fire ( airsoft). I believe the two black wires may go to the gun control switch and the gun itself. The blue and brown wires ?????? Perhaps you could shed some light on my problem.

Not the inside of the turret though, haven't ever looked in mine. Just photos of the board installed inside and the radio.

I don't have my guns wired up any more, so we will have to work together on this. Here is the board layout. Now we just have to figure out where the wires go to the gun.

I am guessing the wires that come from the constant power jack go to the micro switch on the gun with one wire, and the other wire goes to the opposite pole of the motor. This connection is what would make your airsoft gun fire.
