Geez... I've waited a LONG time for one of these things THAT ACTUALLY WORKS!

42% PRODUCTS new "ZEUS" Ignition Power / Engine Kill ALL IN ONE!

ZEUS powers the ignition directly from the aircraft's on-board radio battery. While ZEUS may not be the first, it is absolutely THE BEST. Why? Because it WORKS without any radio interference what-so-ever. Low power range checks and flight checks demonstrated rock solid performance.
Immediately after installation AT THE FIELD, we flew the QQ Yak w/DA100 and recorded very little power consumption.

I will post more data on the unit as soon as I can, but wanted to share this new, innovative product that significantly lightens and simplifies engine ignition systems

These photos were taken today at the field. In 20 minutes we had replaced the Ignition battery, Ignition Switch, and Engine Kill with The Zeus (shown on left).
The unit was simply tie wrapped on top of DA ignition unit and plugged into an ON/OFF receiver Ch. (like retract switch) THAT'S IT!
Slick.

Here is some ZEUS data:

No Load current approx. 0.2 amps or 200 ma

100% input to output isolation

No shared Grounds or Power rails of any kind

Output is selectable to suit any ignition: 5.0v; 6.0v and 8.60v; user selectable

It has been lab tested with an active 2.4 G receiver mounted directly on top of it; no interference of any kind noted after 24 hours.

The unit is brand spankin' new, which is why it is not up on the 42% web site just yet.

42% does it again. This new product is going to change the way people build planes.
Ken puts alot of good old American craftsmanship into every product he produces. We are expecting our first shippment of the Zeus on 11/16/09. If anyone needs info on it you can contact us at planeaddicts@earthlink.net and we can send you over the instruction manual. We sell alot of 42%s products at the shows we attend here in Florida. 42% stands behind their products like no other company.

Look closely and you will see that it is heat shrink-wrapped, thus, protected.

Nuts! The ends of the wrap are open, so stuff can get into it.

Couldn't you just mount it inside the fuse?...

The lead on the Zeus is 24" so there is plenty of mounting location flexibility.

Was something wrong with the original kill switch they sold? Reason I ask is because I just ordered one.

Nope. Nothing wrong with Opto Kill or Z Kill.
This is just an entirely different product that eliminates extra igntion battery, switch and Opto Kill.
Like everything else electronic, it's all about combining functions and making things smaller and lighter and, in many cases, simpler.
I still use the Opto Kill in my other planes. Works fine.

The problems most designers faced when trying to incorporate on-board receiver power for ignition, was the huge potential for radio interference. From what I understand, isolating ignition noise from the radio is very difficult when one starts sharing power and functions directly with receiver.

It seems 42% got it all worked out on the Zeus.

I know that 42% is doing extensive bench testing with FM radios. I do not know the current status.
I recommend you call Ken Anderson with this question @ (916) 821-2635

It takes 200 MA no load? That seems like an awfull lot of no load current, if the ignition draws 100 to 150 MA that means the total from the battery for ignition would be 300 to 350 MA.

Hmmm...a 'likely' 1amp load increase on your flight pack...'possibly 3-5amps'.... I'm not sold on this.

42% Products cannot anticipate the load your particular ignition will represent.

The Zeus itself, represents almost no load - it is your engine's ignition that represents the load / current draw. This will not change at all with the addition of a Zeus.

The currents stated are what the unit is capable of handling, but again, totally dependant upon your ignition system.

Ignition current demands will vary. It is recommended that if you are currently using, say, a 2000 mah airborne pack and are satisfied with your flight times; if you switch over to a Zeus, you might consider 3000 mah just to be safe, then monitor your battery life at the field after 3-4 flights. In many cases, a jump to a larger battery will not be necessary. It just depends upon YOUR use of the aircraft between chargings - which is greatly affected by # of servos, type of servos, flight routines, etc.

The bottom line is that weight and complexity are substantially reduced by the Zeus.

When can we get one? I have been using the Wike unit with great sucess, but I like the idea of the variable output voltage.

This is a great product and could reduce the weight of the airplane up to one pound. This is especially good for the new 30cc size airplanes with the small gas engines. This application could use one A-123 2600mAh battery for everything and not need to be regulated; one battery, one switch for everything. See link below.
