I would like to buy a quality fiberglass hull but don't know of any manufacturers.

Anyone have Phil Thomas e-mail address?

I fell in love with the Bud T4 hull! Fine Design must be a dealer for Hydro & Marine out of Germany, but I don't know about the quality of the fiberglass work. Anyone have any comments about Hydro & Marine and the T4 hull?

Thanks for your responses guys!

3 recommendations for Phil Thomas is impressive.

I don't know if I'm going to get a T-4 hull now because I've heard from a couple of people they can be hard to trim.

Grim: Awesome detail in those pictures!

No harder to trim than any other hydroplane. Are you looking at racing or just having a fun boat to run around the lake?

Maybe I'm using the wrong word when I said the T-4 hull is harder to "trim"?

A well known person in the R/C boat community e-mailed me who has a T-4 and said he had to redo the sponsons to get his T-4 running right.

This will be boat to have fun with.

I can tell you that full size hydros are very sensitive to 1 part of the underside shapes. The HEIGHT or depth of the inner sponsons makes a world of difference in a smooth ride and cornering comfort for the drivers. The height & amount of air trapped underneath determines the amount of hard kick ups from each wave. So increase the sponson depths & or lengths for a smoother & less jerky ride. BIG.. DEEP..DEEP turn fins in the CORRECT position also smooth out the rides.
Deep enough sponsons WILL mask the need for a better turn fin & location. 1 of them, the inside 1, is a partial turn fin in disguise. When you get the fin in the correct place at full speed in a turn the boat will ONLY slip sideways. It will not need any rudder input changes to maintain the same curvature thru the rest of the turn. ..I test a fin location by standing on a hill & looking downward on to the boat. You will quickly see which direction to move the fin for improvements. Do these runs in a CONTINOUS circle. Large at first. You will reach a speed & tight circle that makes any fin MOVEMENT useless for inprovement. When no more improvement is possible. That signals you to go to a LONGER & or DEEPER turn fin at the SAME location.

TIme consuming but it can make a " DOG " into a good cornering boat.
All the above assumes you have already found the best " Center of Balance " by moving weights around.
You should finally move the weights around 1 more time to see if it is in the best location.
This will become a HIGHLY addictive procedure once you see the amount of improvements possible on a poorly set up boat with modifications made to it.

I am assuming the rudder is NOT being hit by any of the prop blast. A offset rudder.

Hi Rich,

Thanks you so much for that very informative info!!

Helps me understand why the well known T-4 owner/racer modified his sponsons.

"I test a fin location by standing on a hill & looking downward on to the boat. You will quickly see which direction to move the fin for improvements."

How would I know which direction to move the fin by looking downward at the boat?

I HATE typing!!

As you start crossing your own wakes, you will see that the bow seems to be yanked outward most of the times, if the turn fin is too far too the rear.
What would happen if the fin was 6" from the stern?
What would happen if the fin was 6" from the bow?

Do you get what we are trying to do ?

Use a support piece of plywood on the inside of the hull as you keep drilling new holes.
