Hi guys,
am not new to rc but never had a tank before. I recently bought a Heng Long Pz IV F2 as my first tank as I need it for a project.
I need a little information about it (well, all recent HL should be the same since electronics are...).

The tank has some issues though among which gun raising / lowering doesn't work: you can hear the device running but no effect and some missing / broken minor parts (aesthetics only).
But when I turn on the tank there is no recorded engine sound running. And in the short test I did (in the very limited space of my room :P) doesn't feel proportional in control. The stick runs till about middle position and nothing happens, then you push more and there it goes.

As it has been sold as with smoke & sound I would like to ask you: has any Pz IV been made as not-S&S? I assumed that since it was recent tank then all of them were S&S.
Do I have a way to clearly see from the board if the unit is S&S or some older model?
I'll do a run test in the open tomorrow. Will see if it does have proportional control and if gun works (not needed for project though).
Could you tell me exactly how older non-proportional models worked? Two speeds?

Besides: the transmitter has the trims which are totally jammed. I haven't opened it but it feels like they have been glued in position. Is this normal?

hehe, sounds bad.. at least i got it rather cheap and i know.. you get what you pay for...

regards

Hello ddrake,

Sounds like you have a "NON"...S&S model. The slide controls for the trims will work on the S&S transmitter but are non working and glued in place for the NON S&S models. Also in the bottom right hand corner of the transmitter there will be a Crystal (this can just be pulled out to change or replace ) and the NON S&S model will have a selector switch......Very easy to tell the difference........

Hope this helps you.........

BIGMIG ........ Larry

It definitely helps!
I do have the A-B-C frequency switch both on tank and transmitter!!!

Since the tank was sold clearly as smoke and sound it is time to write a nice mail to the seller... [>:]

Thank you

Might be a good time to post this "NOTE" again for any new guys wanting to buy a tank and just getting started in tanking.

You should "BUY" a smoke and sound tank right from the start as they are only 10 to 20 Dollars more when buying a new tank.

To "up-grade" a NON...S&S model ..............to a "Smoke and sound model" will cost you allmost as much as "another tank".............

To up-grade you will need to buy.........A new........Transmitter,2 boards, speaker, smoker unit, and a set of crystals as a minimum to make a S&S Tank..............This is not the way to go unless you want it for a project and don't mind spending extra money.

This has been posted many times but allways gets lost in the shuffle.............................

BIGMIG

ALSO NOTE.......................There are still a lot of...." NON" ....."NON" SMOKE & SOUND tanks being sold all over the place so know what you are "BUYING" and keep the above note in mind when placing an order............

Agree with Big Mig on this point. Stay clear non smoke and sound, unless all you are looking for is a static model

The weird thing is that I knew this, still end up with the non-S&S version.
The best lesson for newbies I guess is the same old one: "Stick to sellers well known in the community".

No big deal though as I wil have to gut the electronics out to put mine in.
I plan to fit an Arduino in and drive it through XBee, plus adding auto tasks.
