Hi,

I just bought a Skylark and the directions are horrible. I just have a couple of questions about charging the battery, but first let me tell you what I'm working with.

Charger-9V DC 350 mA (no lights, indicators or anything that would tell you that the battery is charged)

Battery-Smartech 750mAH Ni-Mh

1. How long should I charge this battery?
2. How do I cycle the battery? Do I just let the Heli run the
battery down or is there another way?
3. Please recommend a good all around charger. I plan on buying
one, but in the meantime I'm going to use what came with the
package.

I searched other threads, but could not find any that answered my questions.

Thanks
Jeff

Welcome on board! Do a search, this question has been covered a million times (same for hummingbird, feda, dragonfly etc).

1. charge for 1 and 1/4 hours, and stop when the battery gets warmer than warm, i,e, starts to get uncomfortable. Any hotter and you will damage it.
2. It's ni-mh, you don't need to cycle it
3. If you plan to buy another heli (which half do, half give up) then invest in the best charger you can afford. Good charger = good charge control and looks after your very expensive batteries. I use a Great Planes Triton. It is great value and does Li-Pos, which you will need in the future if you get hooked!

Good luck!

Thank you for answering my questions and for your charger recommendation. I'm going to see if I could find one of those on Ebay.

Much appreciated!
Jeff

Not a problem. I doubt you will find such a new charger on ebay yet.

Yup, I agree, most definitely for the price, the Triton has got to be the best charger. Has all the bells and whistles u need and then some, plus if you stick with the hobby, you will get into lipo's in the future and it's nice to know it'll handle that and works very nicely. Not to mention it has rejuvinated a couple of my old rc car packs to taking a complete charge when before with my Tekin b112c which isn't a slouch of chargers, I could only get it to take about 80%.

You know what, speaking of ebay, I lucked out and got my Triton on ebay! They pop up every now and then but most of the time they go for very close to what you can get one new for... I lucked out and got mine for a hundred bucks and is just like new but they're only about $125 new so that may be the better route.

Also, if for some odd reason, you decided not to stay with the hobby, you could sell it for close to what you got it for in a heartbeat.

Can't go wrong for that price, I can't say enough good things about it, it is an awesome charger, the absolute only thing I would change if I could would be to be able to charge Lithium batteries at a higher rate than 2.5a but no biggie at all, I'm very happy with it.
