Status: offline 		Is the H.O.B. stealth sport kit still available? Or will I have to get plans somewhere and ruin a lot of balsa trying to cut out parts? I`m terrible at scratch building , even with plans I`m just unable to get 2 matching ribs out of 100 , it`s ridiculous. I always end up pinning them together and using a sanding block to get them close enough lol

Status: offline 		Thank you very much , and we will be around for quite a while. He has had me digging up old model stuff all day lol.
My engine stash was a bit more extensive than I had recalled , ( mostly coxes , a teedee.049 that I made r/c complete with a carb from an old queenbee.074, but mostly 010 020 and 030 `s 
but I still  want to get him going on an old beater trainer ( probably copy my old ace alpha) if I can find him a decent new engine like a norvel , thundertiger , etc.
The stealth sport will be his firts real build though.
After that we will jump back into clancy aviation stuff , especially if I can get a yardbee for him.

Status: offline 		Jaspur, You could get a DNU with a brand new Sure Start Cox .049 engine for just $39.95. The DNU (Das Not Ugly) is a laser cut kit designed for use with the Cox Sure Start to be a simple and inexpensive way to get started.

If you have not built a laser cut kit, you are in for a treat.

There is no throttle on the Sure Start engine but for the price, cannot be beat. Besides if you want to slow it down for the early flights, use a 6 inch prop with a 2 inch pitch, mount this backwards to make it less effeciant and don't tweak the needle for peak revs and there you go.

By the way, Skaliwag also carries the Foam wing sets like Ace Used to. These are listed at the bottom of his page.

Status: offline 		Hmmm, I'm curious. Was thinking of building a Grace but haven't bought any wood yet. Is the DNU a better flyer? A kit sure would be easier than trying to gather all the materials on a scratch built Grace. Any opinions? Are the plans available online?

Hmmmm , thank for all the info. buildlight , def. something to consider.
I was thinking that long-term he would want more full house flying as we all do after we get our feet wet , and go for that powerplant  now instead of later. I still have several black widows , golden bees , and peewees. the 049`s probably need fresh cylinder/pistons though.
I just won an auction on ebay for a yard bee , a good candidate to start off with a cox  and move to full house later.

I have bought 1 lazer cut kit , the micro stick ( currently under construction) to power with my throttled cox .010 ( what a beauty) I want to check to see if the bipe version is still available cuz I want one lol.
I will have to get one or 2 of those foam wings for my pocket rocket. It`s a bit big for my taste , but it`s a blast to fly with a sporty powerplant like my throttled teedee020 , or my geemark 030 r/c
I was thinking 2 wing kits so I can add ailerons to a wing for added funzies

What fuel do you run in yours?

Status: offline 		I fly a Yard Bee with a Sure Start and it does great. I used to annoy one of the"peacocks" by flying it close and buzzing around with all that noise. It has a one ounce tank with no clunk so it will not fly inverted. When I want to land, I turn it over and it runs out of fuel. It will loop and roll very well with only rudder and elevator.

I also have a micro stick that has a CDRom motor. These fly very well especially since they are so small. Mine is an older kit and the magnet wing hold down is inadequate. Dave may have fixed this but I simply put a bit of scotch tape at the rear of the wing to assist to magnet. It works.


In my opinion the micro bipe is a bit off. The lower wing is so much less span than the upper wing that it just looks out of proportion.

Status: offline 		I think I will put my little g-mark 03 on my yardbee , if thats not good enough I will switch up to my throttled teedee049 ( I like being able to throttle down sometimes) Or maybe my old faithful g-mark .061r/c

I have`nt gotten a really good look at the micro stick bipe , but maybe its looks will grow on me , or I will just even up he lower wing.
I just want a tiny little bipe to have some fun flying lol

Select hobbies also carries the Early RC models and there is a great bipe called the Little Roughneck that you might want to take a look at. Great lines and a proven design.

Status: offline 		Awwwww man , mixing fuel can`t be a great idea , but if I have to I will try it.
I was looking at the little roughneck as a posible along with the micro bipe from radical r/c and their wicked wing.
I saw that the ace whizzard is still available , I loved that little plane so much more than the alpha( more of a trainer) the whizzard was a portier trainer model with my g-mark .061 on it I was doing loops consecutively around the powerlines at my parents house and was so tight to the lines that when the wind blew a gust up it threw my plane into the lines and wiped the wing off. Talk about the air to dirt missile ,  full throttle all the wai INTO the dirt. I had to use a spade shovel to dig the engine out of the dirt. It wiped out the needle valve assy. totally off of  the carb.. 
Ant the cox.074 queen bee would`nt even fly the plane! I hafta get another of those sweet planes............for my son of course lol

I was thinking that it should be posible to build a upside down type wing saddle for under the fuselage and convert a monoplane into a biplane so long as the leading/trailing edges are kept square?

Status: offline 		Yes, that would work. If you look at any Bipe Stick design, it's just a Stik fuselage flipped over with the V-stab moved.

Status: offline 		About that idea of making a biplane from one Ace foam wing, here's Rollin' Foam, from RCM 3/76. Designer used Ace single channel, said "rudder-only has never been so much fun!" "Rudder only" meant just that. It will be eligible for VRCS next year.

Status: offline 		I just built a 14" plane( I`m thining of swapping her to a bipe conversion though) that is a litle larger than my norm of 10-12" for a mono wing.
I was thinking of the rolling foam at about 12" for an 010-020 cox

I would just post a build thread but I having pics problems , so I will just pick a few stupid q`s  to ask here to make certain I have my head straight.

bipes are inherently draggy due to 2 wings right?
If you use a long wing cord that accentuates that drag right , but what if you lower the height of the wing profile?
A swept wing lowers drag a little right?
A tapered cord lessens drag and increases maneuverability ( turning) right?
