My Jet Boat Build...
Ive been a fan of the jet pump for a while now and finally have the chance (time) to build one
how ever finding a jet hull without breaking the bank was nearly impossible.......
i scored a used 50" Bonzai mono V hull for next to nothing... just needed alittle patch up...... i did abit of research on the length/width ratio of a jet sprint as a point of reference and discovered that the bonzi hull was WAY too long lol... i wanted it shorter so to throw the boat around easier make full use of a jet pump......
SO shortening the hull is on the cards
heres a photoshop mock up
50" Bonzai
CUT DOWN
(pay no attention to the posistion of the motor as it will be going ALOT further back)

RE: My Jet Boat Build...
The motor is a 26cc Zen PUM
i got a clutch thrown in with the hull and since im not out to break any speed records, i desided to install the clutch for user friendly-ness
Vacume manifold for water pump
CLUTCH BELL CARRIER PLATE
CLUTCH SHOE CARRIER
The pump i chose is a Graupner...
more to come
Cheers

Looks like an awesome project.
If you Aussies really want to impress me, get a setup with RC waterskiiers behind the boat. Ya'll have some awesome ski races. (joking bro').

Silly Q'. Is it neccessary to go with a clutch on a jet pump? Figured the thrust at idle wouldn't be nearly as great as a prop at idle. If its anything like a jetski then it would just sit there.

RE: My Jet Boat Build...
i was thinking the same thing coz i wasnt entirely sure weather it would just sit there idling or not
i thought i would mount it with a clutch anyway just incase i will need it (and it came with the hull)... if i dont ill just take it off and use a longer cable
i was also told i could adjust the reverse bucket down a little so when its idling, the thrust is evenly forward and back..... that was i good idea i thought

Yep, I definitly agree with your thinking. Something else to consider is weight issues with the jet vs prop drive. I'd think it would be much more noticeable? Eliminating every little bit would equate to more speed? This is gonna be a good thread.

I say no clutch. The pump has a reverse gate on it. No reason why you should not be able to bring it right in and stop where ever you want.

Heres a clip of one of my jets with reverse bucket - http://photos.imageevent.com/justadd...5/DSCF9270.AVI
No clutch is needed - in fact - you will have more control without one.
Shortening the hull is a big project- I would have aimed for a shorter hull from the getgo. You will also want to remove the steps from the hull as they will likely aerate the intake and cause her to cavitate. You will also need to give yourself a delta on the bottom of the vee for mounting the pump (though imagine that is on the drawing board with the modification.
If you have not already seen them - here are a few pics of some jets that may be of help - http://imageevent.com/justaddwata/myboats/jets

my hull only cost me $50 so dont mind abit of cutting and paseting lol

Just put 2 and 2 together with that hull.
Wow Shane - that was a short lived interest in the Bonzi. [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=9132859]Seems like only last month you were trying to get another MPH out of her[/link]. What went wrong??

i like the look of the bonzi hull, and i like dealin with bonzi.
i whent camping a couple of weeks ago the boat was running sweet i installed the bonzi race pipe and was having fun ringing its neck,
the next day when we where still camping at the lake, when i was carring the boat down to the waters edge on the boat standi slipped over on the pee gravel and took a chip out of the gell coat, no worries i said ill keep driving it, then i lost the hatch lols.
and you might not rember a couple months ago i had a battery lead pull out two fail safes didnt save me and i did a 45 mph jump over the river bed into the trees, the boat was not badly damaged at all just the gell coat, so it was an easy guick repair.
but this time around i though bugger it, ill get a new hull one i had my eye on befor the bonzi and get it profesional build, but i will be using pritty much every thing of the bonzi 50 inch rtr boat as i was happy with that.
there was some high spots on the ride pad that i need to work on and blue print, but after the hull being slightly damaged loosing the hatch that was it for me i though new hull it is, i could of patched the hull up respratyed it and sold it for me i quess but i knew coffee was after a cheap hull and just waited for him to ask for it, so for the above reasons the hull wqas sold cheap as chips.
i dont think the high spots will bother the jet build as this section of the boat will be cut out for the jet install, andsoon ill have a bonzi x 50 inch apache sports hull and im in the process or plaing another larger boat build with some one else, just deciding on motor pipe combos and i will start colecting parts for it very soon.
so after all this i still will be buying spare parts from bonzi, i would of brought another 50 inch bonzi hull of them but the shipping along for the hull is 390 aud and thats a cost of a new hull from australia, it only pay,s off to buy a rtr boat from the usa as the shippign cost to australia is pritty high

RE: My Jet Boat Build...
rightio time to grit the teeth tense the nut sack and start hacking!!!!
(Benk ya might wanna close ya eyes mate )
time to shorten her up!!!!
first to separate the top deck from the bottom hull.. abit of heat and a paint scraper made light work of it
than i cut the "window" part of the deck off
then cut an extra 150-ish mm more
then join the two..... looks frankenstein but this is to make sure its level to ensure minimum filling/snading
one coat of fibreglass/resin on the inside...let dry.....V out top join and fill with risin mixed with micro ballons
next is trimming the bottom hull and making a new transom and mounts for a jet

RE: My Jet Boat Build...
Made a custom housing for the jet attached to the transom
Trimmed the back to size and cut out the bottom to accommodate the jet
Like a glove ( a glove that had to be re trimmed 30 odd times to fit )
Starting to look the part now
Next is to clean up all the excess fibreglass and sand the resin down to size (the fun part....NOT lol)
