I'm just wondering why the manufacturers rate their servo's current draw at no load, instead of a more real world rating at something like 75% or even 90% of rated torque output.

That would give a much more conservative number to work with when figuring how much battery you need to put in your airplane, and figuring how many flights you can reasonably expect to get out of that pack before recharging.

I know the numbers wouldn't look nearly as good, but I'd rather see the real deal.

Thanks!

Use the info as a reference. At full load the servo will pull about 2-3 times more than the no load rating.

Thanks Mike!!

That is a much better and more useful answer than I got from Bax on the Futaba board.

It still would be nice to see a "Current Draw Rating @90% Torque Output" listed though. It shouldn't be too hard to set up to test, I would think.

I think that would be much, much more useful than "Operating, No Load" figures. Only the throttle servo gets life that easy!!
