Hello!

A friend of mine and I are planning to get back into electric cars and we've have been doing a bit of research on available transmitters.

At this time our search has narrowed down to the following:

a. Airtronics M8 Novak
b. JR R1
c. Futuba 3PK
d. JR XS3
e. Hitec Aggressor CRX

We're going to tweak tweak tweak, so the more features the better. We seem to like the Airtronics M8, but your thoughts on how it compares to the others would be appreciated. Did we miss any other significant radios to consider?

There doesn't seem to be much on the web that we can find on good technical reviews on the M8, so here are a few of our questions:
a. Airtronics M8
-Does it have a "traction control" feature? It doesn't appear to have this, whereas the R1 and 3PK does.
-Is this thing due for a replacement as its been around for quite a few years?

Anyhow, thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Regards,
wspi.

I own 3pk and I cant seem to find better radio. It has better feartures than any other listed, and also has LARGE display that shows you graphs and everything. If money is not an issue, i'd say go with 3PK. You'll love the huge display with backlight and menus are simple to use.

you might find some info about radios in www.nitroreview.com

hope this helped

Thanks.

This is the best comparison site I've seen so far.

3PK seems the best pick but have a look at the R1 too, ALOT of serious racers (IFMAR, ROAR, Worlds) uses M8s in electric classes for some reason but there's more JR and Ko Propos popping up in the top racers lists these days. IMO an M8 is slightly overkill for an elec, Futaba is my choice anyways.

Those are good choices of radios. I currently use Mars R and have owned M8 and used Lynx 3D before.

The M8 have a fairly new series (M8 Limited backlit). All M8 have the ABS feature but to some year, it is hidden. Instructions to enable it is posted in a webpage somewhere and fairly easy to find.

3PK and R1 will cost more money. Both of these offers failsafe feature that others (I know nothing about the CRX) at the radio level.

What did you think of the Lynx 3D? And forgive me for being uneducated but what is the Mars 8?

I have fell in love with 3PK cant wish anything more

RandoMere is correct. KO Propo Mars R is the top of the line for rc car from KO. There is no Mars 8, only Airtronics M8.

As for the Lynx 3D, although it has nice features for the money, it did not feel good on my hands.

RandoMere - 3PK is nice too. Are you using the HRS or PCM?

I too don't like the Lynx 3D due to bad ergos and ugly looks and giant digital clock style display. I almost picked up a KO Mars EX-11 and damn is it a nice radio but I'm happy with a MX3, 3PJ and 3PDF.

The reason I was asking about the Lynx 3D...............

I was looking at getting the new CRX, but I found a Lynx 3D on Ebay for $165. It comes with the Spectra and Novak Receiver so I went for it. I figured the synthesized stuff was woth the$$$.

The CRX is brand new and replaces the Lynx 3D. It has all the features any racer would need and the programming is very easy. If you compare it to other radios in its price range it has many more features.

It also just won the ROAR 1/10th open on-road National title in Texas last week, so it you don't think its a true race radio then think again!

For more info go here: http://www.hitecrcd.com/Radios/CRX.htm

If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

Mike - thanks for the info. It is always good to see guys like you representing a company gives first hand info on products.

I did like the features and price of the Lynx 3D but I wish it fitted better on my hand. The first impression kicked in and it drew me away. The CRX looks good. It is time for my son to upgrade and will give the CRX a "touch and feel" test at my LHS.

Greetings Mike

Quick question, I am in the middle of making up my mind to buy a CRX, or a XS3, and have heard the CRX was recalled for a problem with the wheel... is this true, if so, when will the new one be available?
