Well most people I talk to say that yellow is the easiest for them to see, as well as orange. I think my smoke purlple four star 60 is easy to see but I can see any color right now for as young as I am. A good rule of thumb is just cover one side of the plane one color like yellow and the other side a totally different color like red or something. Sometimes the color match wont look too pretty but who cares so long as you can tell which way its going.

If visibility is your main concern, yellow on top and black on bottom is the best combination. Generally, light colors on top (white, light gray, powder blue, silver, aluminum, cream, yellow, orange) and dark colors (black, maroon, dark blue, dark brown) on the underside. Steer clear of medium value colors (red, green, olive drab, medium blue. But light colored top should have patches of dark color trim for contrast, one wide stripe on each wing or on wingtip, close to wing chord width. Reverse the scheme on the underside. Small checkerboard patterns look good up close but lose their contrast at any distance. Side view of fuselage should show some of each color, light and dark, preferably divided along the thrust line or parallel to it. These combinations will give good visibility against any color sky--clear blue, cloudy white, cloudy gray.

I had a Kombat 40 with a light blue wing with neon yellow stripes. That has been the easiest to see I've found so far. Looked like a Switzerland flag.

The neon covering weighs more than the regular opaque covering. Same thing with the metallics and pearls. Not sure if weight could be an issue, but is something to consider. I prefer alot of red/white/bright yellow with large areas of color, with a visually contrasting color next to it. Really makes the plane "pop" out against the sky, no matter what the sky conditions.
