I remember not so many years ago, There were allot of people into boating, But as of late it seems to bo a lost skill...Any idea why that may be? They don't fall from the sky, eat you to death in parts as cars do, and if done right will float even in the event of an explosion(fotunatlly never seen one) and 90% on the time you get all of your parts back.....With Brushless and LiPo they are catching up in speed with over powered Nitro boats, with little or no noise.... So what happened to the fun and sport of twisting little props?

I've done all of them air, land and sea   Nitro and electric!   Cheaper now than 20 years ago.....gonna need a better excuse than money..RC modeling is the one hobby that has not keep up with inflatinon, unless you are buying nitro....a well kept battery will live for years,

When you think about it, pretty much all R/C is fading away compared to the level it was at 25 years ago. And that's despite recent advances in technology/ARF availability, etc. People just want to play Xbox now. I'm the only one I know who's in this hobby.

" I'm the only one I know who's in this hobby."
Sad but true.....I remember going to the lake and seeing 20 or more people from a club.....now you can't even find a club   Depressing.....There has to be a way to bring life back to the hobby....

Probably not unfortunately. I thought the new RTF and high performance stuff would draw people back into it, but everyone just says "too much money." I think the real truth is people don't have the patience or intellect to put together a model, and keep it running. People aren't even that interested in messing with full scale stuff anymore it seems, just TV and internet these days. Not sure what that's all about.

If it wasn't for my models I would probably go nuts!!!!! People compare what we do with the stuff you can get from"wally world" and get dissapointed..... if we could get them to the field or lake it may change some minds....but first we need to get them away from the T.V.
I do have a good question to ask.... Has anyone seen a T.V. ad related to our hobbies?  A lot of folks probably don't even realize this stuff exists!!!!

Yea but is not the state they run drag boats?   fortunatly I have the gulf of mexico and many private lakes....so in your opinion the state is killing the hobby, not realizing how much income they are loosing.....Call your local Senetor to get the ball rolling your way! Votes count...and he doe not want to lose any....

There are a few full scale boat races in Texas every year. I'd guess they get their share of complaints about noise and other disruptions.

> The full scale sanctioning body, or sponsor, probably pays a hefty fee for permits. ,Money tends to smooth things over with government agencies.
> People tolerate a 'once a year' event much better than 'every day' activities like running models.
> Full scale events are advertised and potentially bring in money from fans and race teams.
> Modelers are usually local so there is little potential to make extra money from them.

I agree that you should write your politicians about any issue you think they should look at. I doubt that the modeling world has a lot of political clout though. AMA membership is reportedly about 145,000. Even if non-AMA member pilots, and surface modelers, make the overall modeling hobby (in the US) ten times that size; we are a tiny speck in a 300 million population.

Full size pro drag racing brings in big cash and allows the property holders of the land to pay taxes.we have in the past, spoken to govt offices etc,but to them we are just a bunch of guys playing with toys.its difficult to convey to monies involved, hobby shop support etc as they are not in touch with such things.senators etc think boat adn they envision a houseboat or yact not an r/c hobby boat.its all relative.unless the non hobby public enjoys it then conplaints will always win out.
