Had a successful maiden (for me at least) with my Gaudius on Saturday! This is my first 2m and this plane flies so nice. I found myself over-controlling it a little at first, but after a few flights it felt real good. All control surfaces are perfectly neutral but I did add a 3% throttle to elevator mix at idle for the downlines. I found using the break on landings helped it settle in; used a low idle throughout the sequence.

I'm using 2 Turnigy 5S 5A packs and used 50% fuel after a 5.5 minute flight, and only was pulling about 30mAh from the receiver battery per flight.

Now I need to practice practice practice!

Hey Steve that looks like the one I painted. Hope you enjoy it and remember you painted when you fly against me.
Are you going to make out to FARM this weekend? If so see you there

Caroline from Carden Aircraft custom made these tail covers for my Gaudius and I'm really impressed with their fit and quality. Cost was $60. I'm also using her smaller prop cover and F3A wing bags, which are all of excellent quality. Between the canvas and combed cotton liner is ~1/8" dense foam that should protect the plane from the typical hangar rash. Caroline said that she would be able to do other custom jobs, but would need tracings and some time to make them; anyone that would want a set for the Gaudius shoud be all set as mine fit like a glove.

got some more great flights on the plane, loving it!

After almost one month of waiting for my batteries i maiden my Gaudius yesterday.
My setup is HACKER C50-14xl, SPIN99, SAVOX servos, POWERBOX digi switch, and RHINO 4900 battery, final weigth with carbon sninner and 21x14 PT MODEL carbon prop is 4770gram. Weigth of each battery pack is 1215gram.

The power is great and the handling was o.k and needed about 3% rudder to aileron and 2% rudder to elevator for left knife edge and 1% rudder to aileron for right knife edge, also 2% throttle to elevator for downlines. The plane flies slow and it tracks very well but i have to use it.

Harris-G - I'm surprised you need even those small mixes. I'm only using a downline mix and everything else neutral. Are you sure your CG is correct?

The Gaudius likes a very fwd c/g to get the best tracking and neutral flight. Steve, I think Larry had it figured out with yours.

Andy: euxaristo.. (thank you)

Steve : At first flight the C.G was at 15mm in front of wing tube and he plane tracks very well it needed no mix rudder to elevator but when i made knife edge from one side of the box till the other the plane rolls, so i found it too much nose heavy for my taste and i had to put the mix rudder to aileron. When i move the C.G about at the first half of the wing tube i had to put that little mix rudder to elevator only for left knife edge, the rolling couple didn't change, but i found it more confortable for my to fly.

I want to thanks Ola Fremming for all the details and setup he send me for my plane...

A slight roll or pitch to one side or the other that takes the entire field length is not something I ever worried about. The length of time we spend in knife edge is so short it doesn't matter. I've found that with these mixes, even as slight as they are, have far more affects for rudder corrections when NOT in KE than I find acceptable. Therefore I removed all the mixes I had in my airplanes except the slight down elev and low throttle.

Nothing worse than making a rudder correction and having the airplane pitch or roll on you.

Tim

I just measured my CG and it is 25mm in front of the wing tube, well ahead of others which is strange. I like a very neutral flying plane so although my cg is well in front of others, I find it to fly very well this way. I may want to move it back a very small amount, but it's very close. I'm still waiting on a calm day to refine the trimming, but so far the only mix I have is a 3% down line mix and only a small amount of down elevator is needed when inverted on 45s.

Tim: Its all about personal preferences... I like to have all my mixes on,that's help do more clean my point rolls...

HotFlyAlex: Thank you. The color of my canopy when i took it from Mr Mach was dark blue and i decide to paint it. And this is the result...

Steve: If you move the C.G rear you will see that the plane also tracks well and it is very stable, i had the same discussion with Ola and he told me that i will not have any problem with stability if i move the C.G so back.

The day that i maiden my plane was rather windy, and now i wait for a calm day to go and fly it again to check my mixes...

For the friend that mail me about the weight of my batteries i modified them to lose weight.

And here is one photo of them
