we should have a UGLY SCALE PLANE contest or better yet a scale fly in for all but P51s, Corsairs, Cubs and Extras and anything that resembles a extra......how good do you think the turnout would be? lol we can only wish sometimes. What is amazing is that at the Top Scale events you will continue to see these same aircraft. Its like trying to build a better mouse trap. After Charlie's Big Beautiful All Aluminum P51 Doll...... I don't believe a P51 can win a scale contest. But admit it guys, our first scale prject was either a cub or a P51 heck my 1st R/C plane was a P51. Hey is anybody surprised by the way the poll is turning out so far?

You know the other funny thing is these guys like to do these really common planes and then they try and compete with them and wonder why they dont do real well. What they fail to figure ut is the judges have seen these same birds a million times and they are gonna notice every itty bitty flaw. Now I aint picking on anybuddy but its common sense if you gonna try to compete with a P-51 9 out of 10 times you gonna need to expect to do poorly in static. so pick an ugly bird.

Hi Mr. G: Excellent question! I have pondered over it and I can honestly say---I haven't a clue! Some planes, I have always liked. Some planes, I feel should be very marketable, so I will sell a ton of plans! [I'm always wrong!] I am a great believer in the KISS system [Keep It Simple, Stupid] and that keeps me away from some designs. Some, one of my buddies like, so I try to be a good friend. But boy, what a really great question! I will really be looking forward to reading your article in order to see what I can learn it..............Cheers..........Gus
Every time I see another P-51, Extra 300 or Cap 232 I just gag. Sure they're nice planes but have some originality. If you're going to build a P-51 you have to do something never seen before (I'd post a picture of the P-51's in German markings but I've decided to tone down on pushing peoples buttons).
[**** on]Its funny, i use to be big into P-51s and dont get me wrong i still am...but my god everywhere i go its P-51 this or that blah blah blah! Matter a fact i have/had a Top Flite P-51 on the building board, but now i've taken it off because im sick of looking at em even thinking about selling it...same goes for the Extra 300 and all those airplanes...i know they fly good and all but damn they are everywhere [/**** off]

Anyways... I like/pick the P-40 because not everyone has one (yet : ) and if you see a couple 9 times out of 10 they are different then the other guys... and lastly its been my all time fav. airplane since my grandpa showed me pics of his P-40 he flew in WWII

**** on ....**** off....I love it and I understand wha you are saying. I have my TF P51 rtf but I dont have the fire for it.....anymore, worse yet I have a Byrons P51 ready for primer....and the fire isnt there. Whats a guy to do?Gus...good to hear you are a real person. I have several of your plans and am looking forward to jumping in with both feet. I plan on blowing them up to about a 40 size and seeing what happens. Gus you are probably in the best position to comment on this question since you are both a hobbyist like us and a business man. You have to try and balance your choices between shock and awe, sentimental preferences and good business judgement. Heck if your confused......where does that leave us? lol . I am gonna try and get at least 100 posts on the poll b4 I compile the data and see what comes out the other end. Are you surprised at what you are seeing and what is the ugliest set of plans you sell? t seems that the uglier the better so far.

Oh, don't get me started on how much I hate Cubs. Oh Geez... Especially yellow ones that fly inverted and can do knife-edge.

I personally like the Wilga.

We had a Big-Bird fly-in lasy weekend and some guys from Vancouver came up with some big sailplanes and a really big Polish towplane. I didn't get much info aside from it has a 5-cylinder engine and he flies it incredibly. It's not often I see an RC'er that actually knows how to use flaps.

I got interested in the Wilga watching it on a video working as a towplane for large scale sailplanes. The Alex Frisch model flies well and has a good presence in the air.

Here is the website for Alex Frisch:
http://www.frisch.flugmodellbau.de/

I have plans to fly the Wilga as a floatplane some day... heh, heh, heh

I just switched clubs (the old one died) and on my first day I spotted the h9 P-51. I walked up, asked if it was the h9, yes it is, oo'ed and ah'd appropriately and then asked (stupid me) if he was planning on repainting it. "Why the hell would you need to?" was the reply.

I'm not knocking this guy! It's a nice model and h9 chose a nice paint scheme. I sure wouldn't turn one down. But as he or one of his buddies said, at the last warbird meet they'd had about ten of them. You could run a warbird fly-in that looked just like a scale aerobatic competition--two dozen of the exact same plane.

In the same vein, my hat's off to the guy doing the prototype Corsair from the TF model. I don't think I've ever seen a non-blue rc Corsair before that one.

what a question!
piper cub - I love the way the fly - to common
heath baby bullet - neat looking airplane - interesting history
zlin 526 - pretty, kind of unique - every thing is available
platt zero - history - should be good flier - complete kit
grumman wildcat - my favorite - history most important - looks, flying and building? now bates and robart
bucker jungmeister - neat, odd looking - not real common
and a million others

guess I am all over the place

Been meaning to mention, I'd like to see a fly-in of all the aeroplanes on this page:

now Bill, you are a TRUE ORIGINAL....maybe we should plan to have a contest called the good the bad and the ugly and only planes that are on that page or something along these lines can be entered. This would truelly test the skill of the modeler for scratch buildiing or bashing and for research. 2 THUMBS UP

just a quick thought to you guys, it looks like cost is not a factor in determining what our next scale project will be. Apparently we want what we want , how we want it and when we want it or .

THX!!! for the link to the helldiver!!
My Grandfather was a tailgunner in one, and the reliability of that plane is the only reason I'm here today.
About cubs and mustangs, I have one of each (granted the 'stang is a GWS). Bouth were purchased because I wanted somthing scale that had good in flight handling. The Cub will be my first glow plane and I bought it for nice gentle flights. And yess, It's yellow (ARF, wanted to get in the air before the winter).
If i ever want to build a competion plane then I think I'd do a F.H.40, a spit seaplane or a Mistel.
