i have a dual rotor gyro as many people know. I'm wanting to convert it to a single rotor configuration. Can someone just please post some info or websites about rotor hubs, where i can get them ect, buying rotor blades or making them, and how big rotors i will need, i think the current weight is about 3.5 lbs

thanks,

Hello Vtol-guy

By eck as they say oop North ( I am a Southern softie as you would put it) thats quite a lot of info you are after.

Best place to go is www.autogyro.com

It has LOADS of info on rotors,hubs and suitable material for the construction thereof. When you get to the opening page just click on 'technical' and I am sure you will find something of use to you.

Another good site is www.gyronuts.com which also has good technical information.

Failing answers there, I am more than willing to throw in my 1 1/2 pence worth ( thats 2 cents to most folks on here) .

Best of luck with it

Sean

hey spindizzy

thanks for the sites, if it wern't for them i would have made a bbiiggg mistake

get a flight report on thursday hopefully

hmm...should i try the dual rotor or single rotor variant first?

i've flown the dual before but it crashed, single will be quite interesting

which do you think, either way i will probaly crash one of them but which to try first?

thanks again,

Well, a single rotor is always faster to repair...
Wether using that dual rotor or making a single layout, that is more a personal preference as I see it.
I have never attempted doing such a think, so I just can give you MHO. What I think you must do is find out the radius of the single rotor that will give you the same area as the total dual rotor area.
Speaking clearly, both systems must have the same area. Using some simple maths:
area = pi*R*R area(single)=area(dual)
R= radius (single) pi*R*R=2*pi*r*r
r= radius (dual) R*R=2*r*r ---> R=(2*r*r)^(1/2)
This will keep your disk loading connstant.
BLADES
There's no option, you must make them! There's already lots of info on that in this forum.
HUBS
It depends a bit on the kind of autogiro you have. Is it a DC or Csurfaces machine? Anyway, you must make it very strong. Fix a ball bearing in the very center of it, and make the blade holders articulated with Delta 3.

i did pick a hub to use, i think it was called a polyhead. I thought that blade incidence was essentially the angle of attack it was set at. However, after reading serveral articles, i am now under the impression that blade incidence is (viewing the whole rotor horizontally) the angle at which the whole blade is set at, like the dihedral or anhedral on a plane. so i'm a bit confused with this hub.
