Boyd,
Sorry to hear about the lack of flying. Weather here is dampening the flying time we may have left this season.
Will post some pix tonight on the Trojan, and I ave a flap question that you might be able to anser after you see the pix....
Deans plane is certainly an inspiration...
On a happier note the Avneger kicked to life yesterday next step is to go over everything and make sure it's tight as well a s a few finishing touches and then if the weather cooperates maybe a test flight before the year is over (doubtful as the winds at the beach have been a steady 15-20 with gusts avg around 25 - 30 mph.
Now that the flaps are started I'm getting antsy to get past that part and start on the ailerons. Will het the flap hinges drilled tonight and test fit into the wing and flaps.

Just in case, I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving and the weather coooperates so you guys can continue flying, Dean doesn't have to worry, he has perfect weather year round

Larry

Dean,

Beautiful work.  What is the power plant you are using?  How did you get the canopy to slide back in the angled position like the real one?

Boyd

Thanks Boyd! I tryed installing the Moki 180 but there was not enough room for the plug. I ended up buying an Evolution 26GX which has the plug angled. The full scale T-28 has the rail angled upwards as the canopy slides back so I raised the rear of the front rails 1/2"

To Dean RCU,
Nice T-28 you got there.

You mentioned you were waiting for scale wheels from Glennis. Have you heard anything from them? I am also waiting
for my scale wheels.... 7 months now.... I've been emailing and calling with no response

Thanks, Dave

hey guys,
here are a couple of shots of the flaps, will drill out hangers tonight and hopefully test fit by turkey day. I have to mount the flap servos but am waiting to see how the flaps mount before I mount them wrong.
Any hints?
Boyd, are you going to go gas or glow, I can't decide....

Dave,
I ordered them about six weeks ago. I hope it don't take that long I'm so old that I don't even buy green bananas anymore. I've purchased wheels from him four times before for other models and the longest wait time was about two months. I know that he is dealing with a father who has health problems.

Larry,

I went with gas.  A Fuji 50.  If you start at page 7 it will show you how I did mine.  I had to extend the mount for the engine forward because the cylinder would hit the nose gear unit.

Good luck.

Boyd.

Hey guys,
Hope you've had some great flying weather...
Just started gluing the flap hangers into the flaps, hoping to have that done bu tomorrow evening..
Too much drama going on here to get any serious modeling in not to mention that my brain is fried after 10-1/2 hour work days...
Will post pix as soon as I get the hangers glued...

Hey guys,
Stupid question of the day. Am I better off installing the ailerons first and then installing the flaps to match the angles or vice versa?

Thanks

Hey Boyd,
Started on the ailerons, very intriguing way to get access to the aileron rod... I'm thinking of a doing the same thing but attaching mini magnets to each rib thus not having any screws showing.. my question is did you use 1/8" or 1/4" plywood for the inboard ribs?

Things are going into hibernation for awhile, turns out I'm moving into my mother inlaws condo so I have to start packing for the move and clean out her condo at the same time... not too happy about it but the wife isn't giving me an option..

Will try and post some pix this weekend

Larry

Larry,

I used 1/4 ply on the inbord rib.  I can it take if off by a couple of screws, thus being able to get the rod out that holds the aileron to the wing.

Good luck on the move.

Merry Christmas to all.

Boyd.

Hi guys,
Hope you guys had a very Merry and fruit full Xmas.
In the middle of cleaning out my mother in laws condo for the move and work I have managed to get some build time in.
Here are a couple of pix of the ailerons and test fitting of the flaps, have to get a piece of G-10 to redo one of the flap hangers, cut it way too short for the one that attaches by the gear on the left hand one.
Trying to get the wing done before the move but it's not looking good..
Snow and wind has kept most of us from the field even though the weather was in the 40's up until last Thursday.

Hey guys,
Finally back to the bird. Got the flap servos setup and getting ready to epoxy in the flap hangers finally. Ordered the aileron servos today and hopefully will be ready to sheet the wing by the end of the month.
Did either of you put lights in the wingtips, if so what did you use?
Weather here has been cold and windy, hopefully will get warmer by the end of the month.
On a happier note we will finally fly the Avenger on April 27th and hopefully get it back on the ground in 1 piece.
I will have some more ?'s once I get ready to start sheeting.

Thanks guys for all your tutelage and guidance, I really appreciate it

Larry

Hey Dean
Thanks for the info. When you take the next set of pix can you take a shot of the wing tip showing the nav lights.

Thanks again for the info.

Dean,

Where do you come up with these items.  You keep amazing me with all these neat things.

Larry,

I did not put any lighting system in mine.

BTW, I still have not had good weather to complete the primer/paint job.

Good luck on the Avenger flight.  I keep looking at the Kellogg thread.  Peter does an amazing job on his.  He and Dean could win some nice trophies.

Dean,
I have to say that not only is your build acumen subject to none but what an awesome website, you and Peter should get together.
Have a question for you guys, one of the guys at the field gave me a slightly used Super Tigre S-2000 engine and I was wondering if you think it will be powerful enough for the Trojan, according to Daves drawing he used a 2500 the super tigre website doesn't list the specs for it but the G2300 is 1.42 CU and 3.7hp.
Weather here is still a bit windy with winds running between 10 and 20 with gusts over 25mph.
