Hope all is well. Good News / Bad News. Good News, I ordered the T-28 today (after much abuse from my significant other), Bad News 4 tp 5 weeks before it ships, they have NONE in stock which means they have to contact the guy in FL to laser cut the kit send it back to them so they can add the extra wood and then ship to me
BUT it should be here just in time for flying season to start, but it gives us another 5 weeks of working on the Avenger

I find it difficult to have more than one project on the table.  Better that you have the wait.  That way the Avenger will get done and you can concentrate on the T-28.

Since the Avenger is a project that we do at work 1 night a week at least I will have a project I can work on at home. 1 slight complication, we are putting the condo up for sale and would hate to be part way through the build and get a buyer overnight. but it will give me something to work on and/or to look forward to.
Love the work you're doing on the radial, awesome job.

Glad to see your back, was getting worried. Very nice work on the radial, pix will come in handy in the future. As for the Avenger we got the spaces where the wings meet filled with micro balloons and will be sanding them tomorrow. We have some final sanding to do on wings and fuse and we will be ready for paint. I still need to finish covering the elevator halves and rudder and then run the wiring for the landing and wing tip lights.. it like is never ending in a good way.
My T-28 should be here in the next week or 2 but I have been busy getting the condo ready for sale ... can't wait to move to AZ where the RE taxes are 1/6 what I'm paying here.

Hope all is well and you have gotten a chance to do some flying. My kit showed up Wednesday and lo and behold after waiting 8 weeks for it it turns out PCK only charged me $280.00 for it. I haven't gotten a chance to open the box and am hoping he didnt make a mistake and send me the short kit...
Been busy getting the condo ready to sell, going on the market next weekend so I am reluctant to start the plane.
On the Avenger front we finally got the wingtip and landing light mounted and the lenses attached, we started working on the dummy radial and installing the linkages and servos for the engine. I still have to finish covering the tail feathers and get the hinges mounted for the ailerons and flaps but finally making some real progress.

Talk soon and I haven't forgotten your offer.

Thanks again for all the insight into the build, I owe you BIG time

I have been watching the avenger build site.  You guys are comming along.  I have been busy flying.  Will post some more pics soon on the progress of the canopy.  Also getting ready for our club event in May.

Hope the trip to NY was enjoyable. Thanks for the nice words on the Avenger, we took it to our monthly meeting last month and the guys were still talking about it on Sunday, guess it doesn't look as bad I think it does.
I got some documentation from Bob Banka on the Trojan, if you would like a copy just send me your email address.
I think I will finally get the P-38 test flown before the end of the summer, I have one of the guys recessing the aluminum back plates so I can attach the 3 bladed props, should have them back by Sunday.
Taking our Dave Patrick Extra out to the field on Sunday. hopefully it will be a nice day.

BTW I got 2 photo packs from Banka 1 set shows the cockpit the second set shows the Trojan in Marine Green and Yelo since I always have to be the oddball in the group.

I decided to get the Sierra landing gear for this T-28.  The decision was based on the fact that it's style is so uniuqe.  After getting the gear I found that the craftsmanship is very good and scale like.  The mains fit tight so you will have to do some adjusting to get them to fit just right.  The following pictures show that I took out the Robart gear and how I went about putting the Sierra gear in.

Excellent work. A couple of questions, where did you get the angle indicator and I thought the mains were mounted straight and only the nose wheel was angled.
Finally got a closing date on the condo, we will be moving right before Thanksgiving, which if I get eveything unpacked that we are going to use I can start on the wing by the 1st week of
December which is good since my Xmas bonus will help me get the Sierra gear.
Last weekend was an exremely windy one so no flying and the prak is closed Sunday for a Marathon... seems like the flying season is quickly winding down

Can't wait for your next installment

The angle indicator can be bought at Home Depot or Lowes in thier tool departments.  Look in the area of the squares, levels etc.

You are correct about the mains.  The angle of this wing is at appox 85 degrees.  When the mains are extended they should look like they are straight down as apposed to the angle of the wing.  In order to obtain this correct angle I set it at the angle of the wing, then measured that with the gear extended.

I think the 85 degree reference is to the angle the retracts travel. 90 degrees extension would give the legs a splayed look with reference to the bottom of the wing.
85 degree extension allows the legs to point straight down.

You are absolutely correct.  I was reading the wrong measurement.  It is appox 8 degrees.  I'm glad someone is watching to make sure I get it right.  And to get technical, its really the dihedeal.

Drifter,

I used the protactor, which was set at the 8 degrees, to get the porper angle of the mains.  That way they would set straight down as aposed to the dihedral of the wing.

I hope this claifies everything for everybody.
