Hi all,

I have this plane and will be putting a DLE-55 on it that I still need to get.  Can anybody recommend what size spinners they are using on this pane/engine combo?

The Tru-Turns are my favorite but they cost the most $$$$.  I would like to use an aluminum 3.5" as ValleyView RC has them for a decent price, with nice large cutouts , and also the backplate will fit the single bolt prop adapter.

This is my first 50cc size plane, thanks for the help!

You won't be holding your prop on with just one nut are you?!! The plane comes with a painted CF spinner, 3.5" btw.

Jody @ Valley View is awesome!!

Enjoy it!!!

Well Valley View has the single bolt adapter for the DLE-55, I was planning on getting that one and a spinner from them.  I have one currently on my DLE-30 and it uses one prop washer with one nut, and then the standard spinner with spinner bolt.  Is this not enough (safety wise)?

My Sbach is not the Pilot RC version.  I bought it from WildHare as he lives right down the street from me.  Tom no longer carries this 50cc version and it came with no spinner.  The "circular foot print" area in the fiberglass molding around the front cowling hole is 4" diameter.  I was thinking this is the same on most all the Sbachs and should work fine with a 3.5" spinner.  Thanks!

The prop wouldn't be as secure as if you just used the four bolts. It's got goobs more power and it'll just spin the crank, not the prop during the most important pulls, like out of a hover or quick full power. The DLE's crank  is tapped for a spinner bolt already. No need for an adapter.

Sorry to get off the original thread topic here, but after a little forum research on the 4-bolt pattern vs. single bolt I'm on the fence about which to get. My concern is ofcourse going to the single bolt on the larger DLE-55 engine.

I've had great success with the DLE-30 single bolt using a Tru-Turn spinner and Xoar beechwood props.  Never once noticed any slippage yet whatsoever.  I don't use a torque wrench which I know leaves me guessing, but have always tried to only just snug the props down lightly.  I think I will continue and try the single bolt again on the 55.  Problem is I don't see too many fellas running these on the gas engines but I would venture to say they probably have a pretty good sucess rate when used correctly.

I bought my Pilot RC 50cc Sbach from Chief and it arrived Monday night, so I started building on Tuesday. As of today, Thursday night, I'm getting pretty close to completion. All that is left is to install rudder servo and pull-pull system, install elevator servos and pushrods and the radio and batteries. It is looking pretty good for three days of work, considering I worked my job on those days as well.

I know you're head strong on using it...but there might be a reason nobody uses them on the bigger motors.

Got my plane the other day, wasn't expecting it for another week, Chief was fast to the delivery.   I started building and first impressions is that this is a well put together quick building ARF. Though you do need to pay attention because the manual is veg and some of the pictures are of other models and don't relate to this kit. I've started to do some mods and I'm adding a choke servo because I have one and like that function on cold days (no kneeling and fishing for the choke wire).

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the tail wheel yet. I got new graphics but my first impression is they have improved that. They don't look bad and some are identical to the new ones.

Pics will be posted once I get a little further.

Post a picture because all the ones I have seen the graphics are pretty badly pixelated.

Tail wheel is easy, I glued a ball joint end into the rudder and ran a piece of music wire from the gear through the ball end.

I like your setup, I have been using the Sullivan taile wheel setup on all my kits builds and it has worked flawlessly so I am going to replicate that setup, very similar to yours.
Here is my throttle and choke servo setup.

Looks like they made some modifications to the tail wheel assembly. It's got a single arm coming off the back of the wheel post. Then a single spring attached to the ruder. They did not nail it but it may work. The problem is the angle is to hight. I'm going to give it a shot and see how it does. I tend to rely on the ruder more then the tail wheel anyways. The only pain I encountered was the ruder pin. The guy (or kid) whom built it apparently never hung a door before. I hade to cut in a slit at the trailing edge of the fin because the exit hole from the top was to far away from the hinge line and was keeping the ruder from seating into the hing, not a big deal, just sloppy work! I went with a solid aluminum servo arm for the ruder, the plastic disk method was flexing and I don't trust the plastic to not strip out.
Should be ready to maiden this weekend.

Thats what they did before, it steers like a sponge. Hope it works out.

I like the looks of that tail wheel.

So I was inspired to get the tail wheel right, thanks for the input.
I started by removing the tail wheel assembly. I removed the wheel and examined the assembly. Next I grabbed the tail wheel assembly and headed to Home Depot. I picked up some 6m bolts, washers and nuts.

Back at the shop I removed the factory post that holds the wheel assembly to the carbon tail wheel support. I cut a grove in the top of the new bolt, the drilled a 1/16 hole at the bottom of the grove. The grove makes it so much easier to drill.

Then I attached the bolt to the wheel cradle, using lock tight and elbow grease. Next the tail wheel assembly goes back on the plane. I drilled out an aluminum threaded post I had laying around, screwed it into the ruder. I am using 1/16 music wire. I put a small bend at the end and threaded it threw to the ruder post, simple as pie!

This setup is 10x stiffer then the lame factory setup. So glad I did it, nothing like looking like a fool at the filed when you can even taxi your plane back in, people might think you can't fly!

I also glued in do baffles in attempts to direct done air to the engine. I use the top of a vitamin water bottle.

Now just need to balance!

That looks good! They came a long way from the simple wire tail wheel, too bad they didnt fix the sping at the same time.

My Sbach is all ready for flight today. Weather should be good short of the cold weather. I have some setup left today at the field, lateral balnceing and throws. She came in at just under 17lb dry, seamed to be tail heavy with the CG over the wing tube I have the RX batierie on the motor box and the TX batterie next to the fuel tank at the wing tube. I know it is noes heavy for the first flight and I will move the CG back as I go.

Today I maidened the Sbach, what a great day, 0 wind with a slight breez, not enough to make a defferance to witch way you flew, mostly take off in a left hand pattern and land in a right hand pattern, if ther was a breez l landed in a right  hand pattern (there was a slight north wind when detectable). The first flight was short and sweet, just a couple clicks of elevator, she was a little noes heavy. inverted required very little input, high alpha was amazing. Landigs where smoth, a little hot at first being there was no wind and my idle was high, I mixed in a high idle on the next flight.
This by far has been the best flying plane I have had, in only three flights too. Love the look and the way she flies. I did not get to do much with only three flights, but there is plenty of power with the DLE, and she would hover at 1/3 throtle, pull out was strong. I took some pics at the filed, and one next to my 59" slic for comparison. The tail wheel worked great, sharp and on high rates it would turn on a dime. Cant wait to fly her again. I will wait till after this weekend to move the CG back. Need to get some gas threw this engine.
