Dana,

You can weld a flat plate to the bottom of the rollcage & drill 2 holes in each plate, then mount some wood to the inside of the chine you can screw it straight to the wood. that way it can be easily removed for maintenance etc. This is the way Craig does/did his on the swashdrive units, & the way I intend to build mine (although I'm planning on using carbon fibre for the rollcage).

Header style looks quite familiar, but really loooong IMO
Agree on roll cage mount, needs to be attached to the stringers and not on the hull.

I'm not sure who's boat that pic is from, Craig has a short header set up similar to the one you have shown, except his goes back across the boat at a 45* angle. I've been looking into the outboard pipe setups as a basis for design for what I want to do. Some of the Baja ones could also be made to fit as well I think. that is a way down the line yet though.

4 weeks & I'll be back in Adelaide with all my tools & my shed. Then the build will begin. I'm looking forward to it.

hi guys.
boats looking good Dana.
I mounted another set of stringers along the chine and bolted the cage to that. I also mounted some blocks up at the deck for extra rigidity. before i bolted it to the deck i broke it out of the bottom. it was only 3mm wood glued in so should of been stronger i guess but it hasn't moved a mil since
As for the header im using it is a bh hanson, would be nice to get one a little bit shorter.

first stage of my new roll cage is going together just need to get some more tubing.
Its 3/8" copper tubing that will be silver soldered together

which is this forbidden site that you speak of (just in case im missing out on something) PM me if you have to

cheers
steve

Correct me if i'm wrong but i think most people play with the jet boats once racing is finished  Wavemaker,   Graupner (as scott said) or kehlrer   may be able to do a unit you wish.

Have taken mine sense finished to a couple races, Run before and after which usually draws a pretty good crowd .... giggles all around with many a clapping hand and odd sounds from the crowd as the boat does it's flips and flat spins.
Waiting on two other guys I race with to get theres built, they too purchased Davette hulls but had to use Graupner drives. The rigging of the engine too pump connection being a trouble spot for them currently.

1 Short piece of bar-stock (Ø1/2") threaded M6 > 1/4" ..

1 Short piece of bar-stock (Ø1/2") Flat 8mm > 1/4" ..

Schort piece of 1/4"flexshaft inbetween ... what's so difficult about that ?

OK ... let them buy my engine > jet-pump couplers.

I was Talking to George from Hobby Depot about this unit before I got my Swashdrive unit. They are currently not in production & out of stock. They were going to do another run of them soon if not in the process now. Give him a call & see if he has heard any more details.

Well finally I've got this boat running . I'm using a dog bone universal joint . We'll see how long this will last . I'll take her out tomorrow morning and test out the KMB pump and keep my eye on the dog bone ). Here is a short video .

Dana,

Looks good, I get to start building mine next week.

I'm not sure about the pump you have, but I know with a Swashdrive unit you must run the pump wet when you test run the engine, otherwise the bushes overheat & wear out. If your pump is a bearing mounted unit you may be OK.

Cheers
Jason

Yep , it's got a bearing . It didn't seem to hurt it at all running it out of the water .
I took it to the pond today and I have to say I'm very impressed with that KMB pump . It pushed the boat no problem . It was like playing with a jet ski . To take a guess I would say 30 mph easily . I didn't get a video because I was by myself . Now I'll get it ready for a paint job , then we'll get some video .

I ran the little sprint boat pretty hard today to see how the dog bone would hold up under pressure . Well the dog bone universal joint did fine however I sheared the KMB jet pump drive shaft off . The shaft steps down from 1/4" to 5mm . That was the weak spot ( see photo ) Here is a short video of it running . http://rcuvideos.com/video/DaVette-Sprint-Boat . I'll make another boat and go with the Graupner Jet Pump .
