I doubt they have. However, with just a tad bit of work, mine have been doing great. I don't care for their tires and how they are captured on the rims, but the rest have worked out great. I also extended mine about an 1 inch in length and it made a huge difference in clearence.

as for the retracts, I just took them apart, used silicone grease on the orings, and took some silicone shock fluid and put a few drops into each retract. They still bleed down, but they take a few days to do so.

I really like them because they seem very robust units.

If I had to do it over again, I would probably have Todd at dreamworks makeme a set that have 1" longer struts than the stock ones.

Is there a reason you are not considering the ones that Dreamworks sell?

I originally ordered the ones from Dreamworks, but they didn't fit without making modifications to the wings and nose. I sent them back because I thought they sent me the wrong ones and I could never get a response from Todd. I don't think they should advertise them as a drop in fit if they don't fit without modifications.

The stock units are not bad, but for the price you pay for them I think it's worth getting the pro-links form todd or the sierra retracts. Yeah, you might have to do a little modding, but I think you would be ok. Worth it in the end.

I have considered selling my retracts and going with Todds if he would make some that are longer in length as I have already modified my wing. However I am not having any issues with my retracts right now. They do still bleed down, but it takes a day or two. The only thing I really don't like about them is the main wheels. I had to glue mine to keep them from trying to pull out. After these mods, I have not had any trouble with them.

This thread seems to have died. Does anyone know if TBM will continue to make the DV8R? I've noticed some color schemes have been out for a while.

Thanks,
Mike

I don't know if TBM is going to stop selling the DV8R or not. The dv8r is an awesome flying jet, and for the price its great. I now have a Cheetah mounted on mine and I think its a perfect match.

I have heard they are great jets and wanted to make it my second jet but I'm not sure if I want to buy a discontinued jet. But then again I could always make my own parts if there was anything left of it if there was an incident.

I talked to TBM today and they have a new shipment of DV8R's coming over with new color schemes as well. They told me there will be a few minor modifications but nothing serious and gave no details. I think it will be around for a while and why not it has nothing but positive feedback.

My kid is loving his. We put Robart retracts in ours as I have no love of trailing link systems. Had to mod the wing sheeting for the wheel well openings and the cut out area for the nose gear. Robart still makes the gear that was originally designed for the DV8R 8 years ago.

Great flying model no doubt. He has my ancient P-120 on it; serial number #298. She flies well.

I am so happy i got the last one in tiger meet colors. Putting it together now.  When I first saw it on the TBM website I wanted one. After reading up on it many people said  how good a flyer it is, I ordered one. Now seeing it live, I think it looks great !  Very big and sturdy. That twin rudder sure looks the buisness, giving it that F-18 look. Lots of slot hinges to cut, 84 to be exact. thats for the control surfaces as well as the wings, elevator stabs and twin rudders. If i would have known how much time it would take just for the hing slots, I would have gone with the robart pin hinges. I used 4 x 2rudders, 5 x 2elevators, 6 for each flap and aileron. I used hysol and I am sure that they are never going to work there way out. I decided to make it a three part wing so as to remove only the wing tips for transport.  I called TBM and I was told they are going to continue to offer  the DV8R and they are expecting a shippment in a few months.

Sounds great Andy. Yea, a lot of hinge slots to do. I used Ultra Cote for the hinge on the flap. Got tired of cutting slots and ran otu of hinges.

Your going to love the way it flies.

Greetings,

I have a DV8R and have purchased a KingTech-170F. The diameter of this turbine is much larger than the distance between the engine mount rails. I think that I can find a way to install the turbine. I can either cut the engine mount a bit or install the engine on 2 metal strips and then install the metal strips. But I would like to see if any of you has had the same issue and how you have solved it.
Also at 37 Ibs thrust, is this turbine too powerful for this DV8R?

Thank you very much for your help.

I flew mine with a Rhino for a bit. I had to cut the rails for it to fit between them. You won't have any issue there, just a pain to cut them while the jet is together. As for power, I don't think it's too much. I would not do full throttle passes, and if you do keep them to about 2-3 seconds max. I mainly used the power on take offs and vert. climbs. Most of the time I was at 1/2 power. Keep in mind the dv8r is a large jet, with thick wing. Not made to go 220mph. I had mine up to 180 mph straight and level and it the speed was still picking up when I backed off the power and pulled up a bit to bleed speed off. This is just my opinion. You will love the way the dv8r flys.

I just received a DV8R kit and some of the kit contents i'm not sure of, there is a piece of light ply and a piece of tri stock and square length of wood that the
 instructions dont say anything about.

I called TBM and asked about the pieces in questions and they said they no longer needed they are just some extra pieces.

I am in the process of putting one togather but it has been slow, I will also be using a old P80 and hope to get in the air sometime in Oct. Currently
I am going with the the 80oz Dubro tank it should be good for 6-7 min flight times which is ok for me after all is sorted out I may add another tank.
