He had one sponsor, so sponsorship had nothing to do with it. When you're at the top, you have to use what will give you an advantage. The things like JR's servo technology, the smoother high quality gimbals they use on their Tx.'s, and superior Rx. technology give you that advantage. The JR Radios do in fact have a better feel. You can tell it instantly...I know, I made the switch 17 years ago from the what was supposed to be the "best" brand "F" radio they had to one of the cheapest JR 4 channel Radios then available from Circus Hobbies...it was the difference between night and day. I sent the brand "F" radio in too get it fixed twice on my first year of flying (18 years ago)...once after one plane went in, and the second after another went in. Where is the Radio now? they still have it!!! I guess...that's Futaba service at it best! Do I want it back...never! I wouldn't give a plug nickel for one of those cheap pieces of crap now! Am I brand loyal? You betcha!!! I've had one instance of trouble with my JR equipment in the entire 17 years I've had it (that list includes 7 different radios systems and countless Rx.'s and servos). It had a lithium backup that was replaced that was bad...who's fault? nobody's ...just one of those things, but I got an R/A immediately from Horizon service for a return on their nickel, and a free replacement, and next day shipment back to me...Now that's real service! Why wouldn't Quique want those same advantages? I've seen the ZAPS...not impressed at all. The programming is a nightmare. Advertised functions of the radio that are promised are not delivered and folks seem to be very suprised to find out it takes their mixes up to perform. Futaba's do come with what I call the Bible of programming which is one good trait actually, because without it the radio is useless if you need to program something at the field. With the JR I have never needed such a large book though...actually have never needed a manual at all. The brand "F's" sticks are cheap...feel like rubber at the stops from the cheap plastic flexing. Yeah, really makes one wonder why he switched doesn't it???nah! It's really fairly simple...he just stepped up to better gear!
