watts= Volts X Amps
1 watt / 11.1 volts = 0.09 Amps... (i hope i got my math right lol)... mind you, how often will ya have ya lights on...

Thanks, I enjoy welding aluminum. not a lot of people do it, so it adds something special to a project.

I did quite a bit of testing with the LED lights, krypton bulbs, flashlight stuff, mountain bike headlights in the 16 - 25 watt range, etc. Nothing gave me the real shock and awe I was looking for. I want it to look like a UFO landed when I'm driving this. I did a lot of searching and ended up with PIAA 004XT's. and not one light, but 4 of them. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/PIA-0492/

They are super small, and match the scale of the body almost spot on. All 4 of them on, in the dark is gonna FREAKING AWESOME!!!! (insert more "happy dance" here.)

Status: offline 		batterys in, suspension tight, servo hooked up, all linkages hooked up. What a fiasco. Servo installation was clever.... Not easy to install. I'm gonna be more thoughtful in engineering that area on the next one. You need good access to the servo and the servo horn, and to be able to pull it out quickly if you need a swap.

I don't know what it weighs, but it's getting heavy. and it's not so much the weight, but it's awkward to lift, and that makes it even worse. I think I blew 3 rings of my colon out my butt on the that last lift...

Anywho, here's the rear suspension drop test.

This goes for all parts really.
I've found this to be the most challenging thing with building these cars, as I'm used to building big timber structures etc, where everything stays in place once built.
It's always good to keep the brain active though and think even more steps ahead than normally.






That looks good though.
Suspension works a treat!.

Maybe next time get someone to help you lift it...
Ouch.

This ended up being completely different than what I envisioned in my minds eye at the start of the build. Originally, the build was going to have a traditional cage, that looked like any other cage on a race car. Then I got to be liking those curves on the shock mounts and cantilevers, and decided I would try to embrace round shapes in the cage instead. Took a few days of planning but I like the result. Looks like some kind of insect. This way I can run it with no body on it and it will have it's own style. Rest of the time it's hidden under the 55 chevy body.

What I'm digging the most about the round cage is how it looks utterly different from every angle. In a normal square cage, things line up when you walk around it. Curved cage is different from every angle. Some pictures the car looks cute, then in others like an angry insect, I like the variety. The rear tubes that sweep up, just near the rear tires, have plenty of clearance, they look tight, but are fine completely through the wheel travel.

The body mounts are next, along with bumpers and nerf bars. Rear body mount is going to mount off the back of the cage, and I want to somehow incorporate the idea of using the rear body mount to hold a wing when the bodys not on it. That way it doesn't look like a silly body mount just hanging there. Will be a wing mount.

Status: offline 		Wrapping up the cage. No offense taken on what it looks like. I think I completely agree with you, almost exactly. and it looks smooth and sexy from some sides, and angular and mad from others. Very interesting to me how that worked out.

It;'s kind of starting to look like something. I don't know WHAT, but something.

Status: offline 		Getting body mounts... mounted.

Here's what I'm up against. The front of the body is nearly 8" higher than the frame at the front. Even the image below where you see the little "mock-up" brackets, those brackets are STILL 3" to short. Everything I come up with to mount the body doesn't look like it's suppose to be there and doesn't match the rest of the shape of the vehicle. Whatever I come up with, It's important to me, that the body post brackets, front and back are identical in shape. and that the posts themselves don't stick up to high like a 6" spike, dominating the look of the car. and an 8" tall spike on the nose of the car to hold the body will just wiggle around and look like silly. I don't plan to drive it with the body off, but when it is off, I don't want it to look poorly planned out. Tricky situation. I need the lines to be complimentary or at least look thought out.

I made some little body posts out of Delrin. 1" diameter, 2" tall.

Status: offline 		You could mount a 3 points support permanently attached to the body itself in the front, so when you separate the body from the frame this piece of support stays on the body and the chassis still look clean.

Status: offline 		simply mount the body on the lower sides with zeus fasteners. That body is plenty strong enough. No need to go through the hood and trunk like small scale cars do.

Status: offline 		VERY decent ideas. the body is pretty flimsy though, I think if I flip it at say 10-15mph and it lands upside down, the damage is likely to be pretty high, cracked pits, body posts smashed through etc.. The mount subframe would have to be thinwall steel or aluminum. Hmmm.... very interesting.

In the back of my mind, and for whatever unknown reason... I really want to see 4 body posts and the shell, just be a shell, with no subframe on it. Maybe it doesn't have to come straight up off the frame.
