I am pretty sure that it wasn't the key play but I am going to check the again in case it was.    My engine is not running well.

I double check the TDC visually watching the piston with where I had it marked for the caliper method. And rechecked with the Rcexl beeper and its right on with the prop tighten down.

I pulled the plug and muffler and it is running way to rich.    I must have counted wrong or something.   Running well now ...WOT 7000 18x10 Xoar.

Ok more running today. Found that with the timing set properly the engine runs much smoother but is down a little on power. After another 32 oz the Vess 19A is back to 7840 rpm peak using the rcexl tach. I was going to run other props but the APC hubs are thinner and the 5/16x3/8" sleeve I made was too long. Really wish they left the shaft size at 10mm or 3/8" instead of reducing it down where the prop sits since nearly all props you would run on this engine have 10mm holes.

No my engine will turn a 18x10 Mejzlik 200 rpm faster than a 18x8 Xoar. Xoar loads the engine more but perform very well in the air. Great for aerobatics.

What plane are you going to use the 18x10 on? I'll cut a new bushing and run the APC 19x8 and 18x6 so we can get good comparison of what this engine can do compared to a Syssa 180 and the DLE 30. The APC and Vess 18x6 load within 50 rpm of each other.

While Zoars are good props you can't beat a properly selected APC for efficiency.

The difference is 1000 rpms thou...

In looking at the DLE 30 prop data again, 7000 is about right for a new motor.  The DLE-30 is turning the same prop in the 7200-7500 range.   I was a little worried about that.  I am going to Muncie in three weeks and I want to have my plane ready.  3 weeks its cutting it real close if I need to send it in for service.   For now I guess I will just keep burning some fuel throught it and quit worring about it.   I got the RCexl tach on order...

I am going to use the 18x10 in the new Extreme Flight Extra 300 78" plane and I plan to fly IMAC with it ( Basic ).  I don't plan to fly much 3d with it.  It would be next season before I was able to replace it.

A APC 18X8W might be better for IMAC than a 18X10

WARNING!!!

The prophub keyway is cut too deep and the woodruff key can come half way out of the crankshaft. Mine almost sheared which is way the timing could change so much. I installed a shim on top of the woodruff key to prevent the movement. The prophub appears to be cut for a 1/8"x1/2" key but the installed key seems to be a smaller 3mmx9.66mm metric size

Tomy,

Do you have a quiet muffler or header that fits this exhaust bolt pattern or does this engine share a exhaust bolt pattern with any other engine?

You can see how little key was in the crankshaft if you look at the crack in the woodruff key. You can see how the crankshaft is reduced in diameter to 5/16" requiring most props used on this engine to be bushed. Also, the pickup magnet is in line with one of the propbolts. That won't matter because the props are thicker than the screw is long but seems like an oversite.

Overall the engine really seems like a good deal and another option for a lightweight, strong gasser. In fact, I think it qualifies as the lightest, strongest, little gasser at this time. Just make sure you flush the crankcase out with gas a few times and oil it up before you run it. (I used two stroke mix and filtered it thru a papertowel into my fuel jug to reuse. I have a chainsaw clunk filter in the gas can and a Kohler inline filter to my engines )

If I can pry my womans video camera away from her I'll take some.

MT35 engine exhaust pattern are same as zenoah G26 . so the pitts around muffler works for G26 are OK for MT35

Ok, ran again today. Weather: 100% humidity, temp 46 degrees. Stock exhaust. The engine has about 3/4 gallon thru it now.

APC18X6 8300
APC 19x8W 7250
Bolly Carbon 18x10 8000
Bolly 16.5x10 3 blade 7700
Mejzlik 19x8 7400
Mejzlik 20x6 8000
Mejzlik 20x8 7000
Vess 19A 7630

Based on the rpm of the APC 18x6W this engine is not a revver but a puller.

These rpm readings were with straight synthetic Mobil 2T at 30:1. Switching to Pennzoil air cooled at 31:1 increased all rpm by about 200 rpm.

Uh oh, judging from the 8300 rpm with the APC 18x6 the MT-35 may not be a suitable replacement for the piped MVVS 26cc in my 3D UltraRC Giles 202. The MVVS turns the APC 18x6 wide prop at 8800 rpm. I wanted to use the larger displacement MT-35 so I could get rid of the pipe. Now what? Good grief!
Maybe we need some thrust numbers with the larger props.

I think the no's on the big Mejzlik props look good. I haven't posted any prop no's of my own because I had to return my engine to MT, it would get very tight when turning it over by hand so MT asked me to return it and I have not got my new engine yet. I hope they send me one with a differant choke set up as I do not like the interlocking choke on it. PlaneKrazee are you using the stock carb on yours?

Rocketman,

Get a Mejzlik 20x8 or any of the other 19 to 20 inch props and you'll have about the same speed and thrust without a tuned pipe.

Seagull,

Stock carb. I'm going to go to the local small engine repair shop and dumpster dive for the detent choke out of an old carb.

BTW,

This engine is another excellent option to convert a .90 to 1.60 size glow plane to gas.

PlaneKrazee,

Good job of providing engine performance data on the various props you've collected.
By the way, as you suggested I sent an e-mail to Tomy with the questions about the MT-35 that I posted in post " 127. He responded the next day with the answers.

Thanks. It was a marathon. All rpm are just slighty rich of peak and it needed to be richend to cool down. Would need to richen 200 rpm to fly.

When I have time I'll run the DLE30 to compare.

Why yes, I am interested. I need to run the same props under the same conditions to get an accurate comparision though.

tele1974,
I would like to see you prop test results with the DLE-30 and I'm sure others would also. It would probably be more appropriate to publish it in the "NEW DLE30!" thread or start a new thread where data can be posted for all engines in the 26cc to 35cc class.

We can post in the tach readings forum and link it here. I think I'll start doing that too.

Ran a DLE30 today. With the needles of both engines set pretty close the MT35 seems smoother overall. Mounted on the test stand, the fuel tank didn't shake at all with the 35. The 30 had the tank rippling like the ocean on a windy day.

Yes,

I have run the engine with a Bolly 16.5x10 3b carbon prop and posted in the tach readings forum and in this thread back about 15 posts. I also have a Bolly 18x10 3b I'm going to run today.

A more readily available 3b prop would be either Master Airscrew 16x8, 16x10 or Graupner has many sizes in both carbon and grp.

If you want to buy a new Bolly carbon prop contact AeroProduct.net Fast shipping and the only place to buy them. These props are hand layed carbon tow/epoxy and have no flex. They are expensive and must be balanced. Unless you have a High Point type balancer and have balanced a three blade I'd pay them to balance it. Before I removed any material I balanced the prop with masking tape then gradually removed material from the heavy blades/hubs and tape from the lighter blades until all the tape was gone.

Edited to add prop data.

Bolly 18x10 3blade: 7000 rpm 36 degrees, 31% humidity.
