Status: offline 		you could always make the pipe fit the header by dropping it down just a bit...
I guess you would have to bend the header back but it would solve your problem..

Status: offline 		I advanced the timing all the way to 35 degrees and the motor runs much smoother and starts much easier.  However, it is only spinning the Vess 19A at 6750. 

Whats up?

I see that it should be in the around 7700.  I spent a morning tuning it and 6750 was the best I could get out of it.

That makes no sense. The engine should be labored and wanting to backfire at high rpm with that advance. Send the engine back and have them fix it or give you another.

Status: offline 		Contact Jack at mtenginesusa.com. The rpm figures I got, you and everyone else should get with a couple hundred rpm. Send it back if there is a problem and they can fix it, replace the reeds with fiberglass or whatever. It has a two year warranty, right? The metal reeds do spit fuel out the carb for sure. I installed a velocity stack from the get go so I have no comparison without one.

It is not up to you to get the engine running properly if there is truely a problem with the engine it's self, it is up to the manufacturer.

Status: offline 		Weather: 100% humidity, temp 46 degrees. Stock exhaust. The engine has about 3/4 gallon thru it now.

APC18X6W 8300
APC 19x8W 7250
Bolly Carbon 18x10 8000
Bolly 16.5x10 3 blade 7700
Mejzlik 19x8 7400
Mejzlik 20x6 8000
Mejzlik 20x8 7000
Vess 19A 7630

Based on the rpm of the APC 18x6W this engine is not a revver but a puller.

I set the timing to 28* BTDC and flushed the engine of crud before running. If you are not getting close to these numbers there is something wrong.

These figures are all down a couple hundred rpm from a DLE 30 but the 35 weighs a little less and is beam mount.

Its going to Jodi tomorrow.  
I'll let Dr. 2 cycle figure it out now.   Who knows maybe it just has a case of the "crud".   I hear its going around.

Status: offline 		The problem with prop numbers is not everyone uses the same prop, with the execption of the Vess 19A , the props listed above are rarely seen on engines this size. Very few people buying a $280 engine will spend $60+ on a prop.

The Bolly 18X10 three blade I ran would be the best on a warbird. Too bad they are no longer made. One thing is for sure, to break a Bolly you would also destroy the engine.

Is MT going to replace the reed on new engines with a different material?

I've always found that a Prop works MUCH better than a flex header when bolted to the front of the engine

Status: offline 		Another MT-35 runs.

Those new Xoar 19 X "3DA" props arrived from Valley View RC in a dented, bent and busted mailing tube but the props were undamaged. The props were obviously strong enough to prevent the U.S. Mail from breaking the tube completely apart.

Initially the engine was difficult to start because it would not draw fuel but it popped and spun the prop loose after I squirted gas in the carb. After squirting gas in it a couple of times it fired up and continued running. Before I was chased indoors by mosquitoes, thunder and rain I managed to get the max speed up to a "blazing" 4300 rpm and idle speed down to 2400 rpm after many needle valve adjustments and a tank of gas.

The following day I started all over by resetting both needle valves to 1 1/2 turns open and choked the engine. This time the gas came up in the line and flowed to the engine. Also, the compression was much better than the day before when it seemed to have a leaky piston ring. It surprised me by roaring to life on one flip of the prop.
With just a few needle adjustments, max speed went to 7000 rpm and idle was 2000 rpm (it idled at 1700 rpm but not reliably). It shakes a good deal more than the MVVS 26cc that it replaced. I'm using regular gas at 32:1 with Mobil Racing 2T synthetic oil.

I would have taken it to the field to break it in while flying it but the winds were too high, just as they have been for weeks.
