UPS ran early today. They just dropped off the New ESM LA-7. I was excited to open the box the see how it looked.. There was no damage to the outside box and everything looed good inside. I put it together right quick to get a look at it. I plan on making this one electric with an Efllight 160. It should make it really go...
The first thing I will do is make nthe cockpit kit then finish the plane.....

Nice! Mine is in the mail too, but coming farther west so maybe tomorrow or Monday.

Can you get me the cowl diameter and depth so I can see if my engine will fit? Otherwise I may go electric too.

What are you planning on doing for gear? Sierra is working on some scale gear for it which I was planning on purchasing.

Yes I have talked to Darrell about the Gear. I'll get a set when they are ready,

The cowl ius 9.25" in daimeter. The depth appears to abe about 6.25 from the firewall to the front. The instruction are not really clear..

There is no spinner ready available.
Is there anyone interested in a scale spinner? I currently have spinners made for the CMP ME 109 and I can have scale spinners forn the LA-7 in about 4-5 weeks..The spinner is 4.5" in diameter.

Ty,

Great....Thanks for the dimensions! Looks like I will need to move the firewall back to fit the Saito 36 in

Oh well, at lease it won't stick out of the cowl. Let me know when the cockpit kits are ready

How is the rudder and tail wheel setup on this one?

Rudder is perdrilled but you have to drill the trailing edge of the vertical for the hinge. I would most likely change to the larger robart hinge myself especially if i were using a gas motor. The cowl slips over the fuse and it is a little adjustable if you want. So you may be able just to move the cowl a little forward....

I did not say earlier but the boxes are backed very neatly. I only think you would see dama if the carrier would have sometype of crush of the box. Everything is in nice small bags...

Where do the flap servos go? It looks like there is no hatch on the bottom of the wing so they go on top inside the fuze?

That's nice if they do

The instructions say there is another hatch on the bottom . I just have not looked at it closely enough yet...

Too bad I would have liked is clean, but as long as it's a hatch that will work. It looks like this plane will be similar to a Bearcat or FW-190 in flying characteristics. I had one of the Alpha model LA7s, but that's not a good comparison as those are soooo light.

Looks great! It's going to turn some heads at the field for sure! What motor are you going with if you don't go electric? I may also go electric if I can't fit the Saito in the cowl. Does it look like it will need a lot of weight up front like the Bearcat?

I know too many questions, but I don't have mine yet

I only do electric now days. Tired of the gas smell and loud noises.. Yes I am getting old...I will most likely fabricate a hatch on the bottm of the cowl to make battery changes easy...I have not had enough time to see about tail heavy yet. My first impressions its prety light...

I hear you on the mess...I won't do glow anymore, but do like gas for the fact that I can get 15-20 minute flight times on planes. I am getting only about 6-7 minutes on electric and I like to fly more than that sometimes

Still electric is very easy and setup is simple too. Now with the new prices on batteries I may stay electric only in the future too. The batteries was what was holding my back from doing more electrics.

All the kits come with the openings for the servos covered over, you cut away the covering, and fit the servos to the pre-painted ply covers-got to give you something to do!!! just feel for the hatches, i have just done this with the stuka, no problems,

Well hobby city is comming out with some 6000 and 8000 mah packs this year. The 5800 mah 30c packs are only $89 right now. That will increase your flight times...

Yeah, I saw that! That would really make things nice! It may just make sense to sell all my gas stuff and go electric then I am currently using 2x 5000 mah 6S packs on my Power 160 motors which gives me 6-8 minutes depending on how I fly. That's just too short for me now and I am thinking of going with a Saito 36 on the LA7 because of this. If it won't fit in the cowl I will definately go electric. I hate having motors hang out of the cowl.

Well I just got back from a weekend out of tonw. The first thing I plan to do is install the cockpit. I had a really hard time trying to find something on the net about the cockpit and all along I have a book on the LA-7 in my Archives hidden away..It had a great drawing of the cockpit and even the instrument panel...
and even a layouit of the cockpit...

The ESM LA-7 Is great for a cockpit. Plenty of room You only have to remove just a small portion of one former. I Had really been thinking about how to work with the area behind the cockpit. Radio compartment. There are several differt interuptation of that area . I decides to make an insert for that area and add a couple reaio boxes. I made a mold of the cuverature and then used that to make my mold of that area. I leave a 1/4" lip around the whole rear area and the compartment drops right in and matched the curvature perfectly. I then moved to the front cockpit. I make a basic mold of the area to test the fit. I pull the test one out of .020 ABS. I usually have several before i find what fits. This help me decide what needs to be added and get the size right...

Focke Wulf. Can you make a spinner for the ESM FW 190?

What diameter is the spinner? I used the ones from the Parkzone 109 on my Me-110 and it's perfect. Not sure if they will be the right size for the KMP 109. I think they are 3.5 inches diameter.
