Hi n8622t,

If you look at the pics of any of the XYZ 53cc that have been run you can see they have porous welds and they leak there. I had planed to get Jtec mufflers but the Octopus RC ones look like an easy solution.

I goofed up last weekend.... I assembled a really nice double ball joint and titanium turnbuckle control rod set up on my wing. They were perfect and beautiful in their assembly. Then it hit me like a ton of bricks...

Using a ball joint on the single post style of control horn meant the horn could spin on the post. Crap.... So I had to go back to the LHS to get bits to use the big Dubro 4-40 clevis. This means my control rods are not perfectly straight/perpendicular from the servo to the surface. After staring at it for a couple of days I don't think this will be an issue. But... It bugs me. The rod angle is offset now due to the space the ball link and tapered spacer they use. Not much. But I'm funny that way.

So now I have a proper ball link at the servo and a clevis at the surface. I just need to replace the horn part of the control horn as I need to re-drill the hols for so they fit the clevis pin precisely.

If need be, I can reposition the control horn and dowel the wing to fill the old hole. Cosmetically, you'd never see it once paint work is done. But Somehow I managed to turn a simple servo install into a bit of drama. Funny how these things mushroom as you looking at the various bits.

Everything works smoothly. I just need to feel comfortable with the slight offset instead of a perfectly straight control rod angle. I guess it's no different than the angle you'd see it the tail where a control rod exits the fuse. In fact a LOT less.... I'm just picky.

Status: offline 		Anyone else have issues with UPS? It's like they shipped my plane on its tail from FL to UT. Unfortunately my wife didn't know any better and signed for the box, I would have refused it w/o evening opening the box based on the fact that the box was all torn up and had a huge gaping hole that they taped shut.

Had the same thing happen with USPS from Honk Kong..... They call it EMS Express then it transfers to USPS here. Crushed tail on a Scale Glider. The vendor was very good to work with and a replacement is on its way.

Had a whole plane lost by German DHL which is different from the DHL USA..... Go figure. Had to have a second plane sent but that one made it.


I can say I've learn more about tracking and shipping from HK or Central Europe to the US then I ever wanted to know. Hong Kong is fairly easy.....

Tomas is great to work with, glad your on your way.

To their credit, I took the packaging off before taking that pic. The plane is meant to be shipped on its nose, which would be fine, but it was on the tail. Regardless, UPS tore the box open!!

How would this xyz-53 work in the ESM P-40 that n8622t is building? Is it to wide for cowl?

Thanks for the replacement mufflers! I bought my engine from them ( the one that's in that Fw-190d maiden video) and I recieved an email from them asking me to confirm my shipping address was still the same and that I had some replacement mufflers coming my way!! Great service!!

Here is another video of the Fw-190 so you guys can see the engine running. We had 4 flightsback to back that day and the engine didn't skip a beat! I replaced the plugs with iridium CM-6's some time ago.

Status: offline 		I just got back from the field after the maiden flight of my LA-7 

I have no pictures from the field but have a couple from the build

Mine is electric and powered by an E-Flite 160 running on 12S turning a 16X10 Xoar Prop.     This gives me per the Logs on my HV ICE 120 V2 (post recall) ESC about 2200 watts in the air and 2500 watts static.     The plane weighed in a 19 and a half pounds fully fueled with two Turnigy 5800 25 C 5800mah packs.    I was more than a little surprised to see that I had to move my batteries back from their fully forward position moving them an inch back put the cog at 150 mm from the leading edge as taken as close as possible to the Fuselage.      For the gear I have the ESM retracts converted to electric with the Lado Conversion RS 666 units coutesy of Magnum RC.   
Anyway after doing some taxi tests with my wingman close by in case of major trim issues we took off, no problems and just a couple of minor trim adjustments had the plane going straight level and hands off.     Real nice!     We did some slow flight work with the gear and flaps down and discovered that the stall is something to stay away from, some say tip stall!!   Regardless the right wing dropped quickly, and the plane wanter to go into a spin.     I believe there is a video of a radial equipped LA-7 augering in, that demonstates the stall characteristics.   I am very glad to see that plane repaired (sad to watch the crash).      Any way I am thrilled with the plane and its handling I put on 3 flights today and all the landings and takeoffs were pretty smooth.   

I should be able to post some more Pictures after some weathering has been applied.

Status: offline 		Boris (gave him a name) came to me courtesy of Mark Morley at Scale Aircrew Supplies in the UK.    When I went looking for a pilot I was not having much if any luck finding anything one of my searches had me finding Scale Aircrew Supplies, I sent an email to Mark asking me if he could put a pilot circa summer 44 together for me.   A couple of weeks later I got an email with some pictures and seeing that it was very close to my birthday I treated myself.      Mark's work is indeen excellent,  I really should have installed an opening canopy to show him off better.

Great pilot and info on them!! I got my control rods figured out and all re-drilled. Since I'm using those turnbuckles I have to get a shorter set for the ailerons. I ended up being off by a 1/2 inch when I ordered those.

I see that you had to raise your servos to clear the cockpit. I thought we didn't need to do that? Should I order my cockpit now? I was thinking I could do it after I got the major assemblies together.

My wings are ready to be glued. how to have the tail and wings mounted by next weekend.

Status: offline 		Joe I would suggest that you get the cockpit in before you do any work with the servos or the pull pull install.

You will alse want to look at cutting the cross brace containing the guides for the pull pull wires out.   I did this by cutting though them close to the former.    Also when you put in the radio tray,  cut out the whole per Ty's instructions then plase the radio tray in and mark the out line of the fuse on the bottom of the tray's styrene.    When I did mine I trimmed the tray by going a quarter inch from the dip in the tray and it did not line up with the fuse when I test fitted it.     Easy fix but had I marked it as I just described it would have saved some additional plastic work.
