Status: offline 		I started adding the detail to the cockpit sides. I am also in the process of make several molds of hard to pull parts.
I got the instrument panel mostly done. It still has to be trimed.

I also made the cockpit seat. It looked really uncomfortable...

Status: offline 		Well I have been work hard over the past couple days . Made several new resin molds for this cockpit. I am still working on the gun sight. The rubber is still curing on that. I have the majority of the cockpit done and put it in place to take a couple of pic's. I also had a A-H Design 1/5 scale pilot I thought i would give you a couple pic's with hin in place. The A-H Design pilots are really reasonable at about $35 for a full body pitl;o and only wiegh about 2 oz...

Status: offline 		I got my LA-7 this weekend. It looks great! Trying to fit a motor inside the cowl now. My Saito will stick out, so I am not sure I want to use that motor.

It looks like a 4" spinner will work great. I stuck a 4" on the cowl and it looked nice. I think a spinner from a P-51 would look pretty good.

I am in the process of getting scale spinners at 4.5" made I took teh shape off of a 3 view... Hope to have them in 4-5 weeks to Tomas if you are interested..

Status: offline 		I will measure it tonight. I am trying to find a motor that fits inside the cowl, but they are all too tall

I may have to go electric again. The lowest profile I have found is the Evolution 40 GX. Otherwise I use my Saito and let it stick out the bottom of the cowl, which I hate.

BEST THING ABOUT THIS scale spinner..is its more scale than a P-51 spinner, right off a 3 view that seems to be accurate
plus you can get 2 spinner cones and 1 backplate to run 2 and 3 blade spinners with the same backplate...
no prop adapter this way as the spinner cone will attach to the backplate with screws...

C'MON.... email me to get ON THE LIST and lets get them going...your LA-7 deserves the best!

Hey guys I have a good tip for cutting the canopies for the ESM warbirds. I have noticed that they can be a little brittle when you cut into a corner and I have chipped one or 2 myself. I found the best way to cut a canopy is to go to the kitchen sink and turn the hot water on. Run the canopy under the water. It will warm it but will not deform it. I then cut along the lines in the inside of the canopy . These lines are a little easier to see. This makes a canpoy very easy to cut....

Diameter (across the firewall end) 230 mm (9.25")
Diameter (across the engine opening inside) 147 mm (5.75")
Length (firewall to front) 210 mm (5.5")

I tried every gas engine yesterday to see if one would fit inside the cowl and couldn't fine one that would. I think I am going electric on this plane too. My Saito will stick out almot 2" and will provide less power than a Power 160 electric motor.

I was suprised when I compared the power between the two and discovered that the Saito will put out 2200 watts (3.0 HP) and the Power 160 will put out over 2700 watts (3.75 HP). I have been getting 3000 watts on my other planes with this motor so it will really put out 4 HP for a short burst if needed. It's hard to compare the two and now with battery prices dropping, it makes the descision easier to go with electric.

Anyone need a new Saito 36 motor

Status: offline 		Jeff I just think electric is the way to go my self. This thing will be way over powered with a E-flight 160...

It was sunny outside today and here are the final pic's of the cockpit. I have not glued it in yet I still need to pull it out to do the installation vid's..
There aere several different armor plating for behind the pilot. i went witha clear one. I also finished the gun sight and holder.

A spinner would be great too. Count me in for one of each when you get them ready. I can go through Thomas or you which ever works best.

I have the 160 in my Hurricane and it's a screamer for sure. I also have the same setup in my H9 P51-150 and it's faster than the gas versions at the field. The only draw back is the short flight times, but that will change with the new batteries coming on the market now. I do miss wipping off oil from my planes after a long day of flying

Status: offline 		Funny thing. I would have already had the cockpits to Tomas but the other dayI was warming a piece of ABS and I walked over for just a second to check on some resin Parts. Well a second turned into a minute. I turned around and I had flames shooting up out of my vacuum former. Well it. I smoked up the whole basement!!!!
I had to rebuild the heating section. T hat put me behind by a couple days. I will ship kits either Friday or Monday


The 160 will be great. I am getting 6-8 minute flight s t of my 109 with 10s 5000 mah packs. HS is comming out with 5800 pack at the same size and weight...

Just ordered two 5800 5S packs the other day. They seem to be the only ones they are not out-of-stock at Hobby King. The 6S packs are popular as a lot of people are flying 60 size planes and the 5S packs aren't. Works for me

I get 10+ minutes using that setup in my Hurricane and can get more time if I don't try and beat all the gas planes around the field. I let a buddy try my H9-P51 150 and he was in shock on how much power the plane has. It's also nice to have no lag to full throttle like you have with glow and gas.

Too bad about your vacuum former

I am on the list with Thomas for your cockpit kit and retracts (Sierra).

Which A-H pilot did you use in the LA-7 cockpit? Is it 1/5 or 1/6 scale? Do you know if they have a retailer in the states?

BTW, I'm in for the cockpit kit and the spinner...Tomas will send them to me when available.

I am not sure if there is anyone who carries them in the states any more. I had seen them in the past but the price was doubled.
I used the 1/5 scale one in the pic's. They do carry a russian pilot. I don't know why they don't post more pic's on thier website :

Status: offline 		I brought my LA-7 to the field yesterday to show a couple friends and had a big crowd asking about it. I was there for an hour fielding questions and showing off the plane and I only had the fuze, canopy and cowl to show

It really is a nice plane and something different that people love to see. Can't wait to get mine in the air. I just need gear, a spinner and cockpit kit

I installed a retractable tail wheel in mine and it works great. I also have a real nice motor mount that just bolts right on the firewall that holds the batteries and motor ahead of the firewall so you won't have to add any weight. It's aluminum too so it's very strong but light. I will try and post photos when I get time. Still waiting for my batteries to arrive so I can see where my CG will be.

That's great! Can't wait to get one! Now I just need the retracts.

I used a simple Dubro mechanical tail wheel. I couldn't fit the Robart in the tail and it was heavy too. I used a small servo to retract the wheel and stuck it right behind the retract. I don't think it added much weight, but we will see when I get everything installed. I can always change it back later. I have the wheel on a pull-pull from a servo up front.

Works great! I will try and post some photos tomorrow.
