I used a special battery box that mounted on the firewall and the motor mounted to that. This got the CG too far forward and I had to add weight to the tail even with a servo in the tail for the retractable tail wheel. It's still a nice setup and allows you to change the batteries without removal of the wing. If you don't mind that a standard electric motor mount like from Hyperion or Hanger 9 would work fine with the batteries just inside the firewall inside the plane should put the CG about perfect.

Status: offline 		I think it was a Dubro mechanical retract with an HS 225 servo for the retract part. Works great and adds some weight in the back where I needed it anyway. I couldn't fit a Robart air retract in the space so this was my second choice.

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for the info and photos.  I'll be using Thunder Power 40C 6500 mAh packs.  The 10S packs weigh 4 pouds and the 12S packs weigh 4.75 pounds.  I get 5 minute flights using these packs on my high-powered EDF jets that draw 125 amps.  I suspect I will get at least 8 minute flight times with the low amp draw of the E-Flite 160 or the AXI 5345.

That's what I was planning to, but don't have the larger packs yet. If you are going that route I would suggest sticking the batteries behind the firewall so you don't have to add too much weight to the tail. If you stick them out front like me you will have to add about 1 lb. of weight in the tail

Just stick it where the fuel tank was going and you may have to add a little in the nose, but probably much less than you would otherwise. Get the ESC, receiver pack in front of the firewall and you may be fine with no weight. Let us know how it goes. I may have to change my setup when I get the larger packs

Hi Karl,

It's the one you had.  I had to beg him to sell it to me.  I needed an IMAA legal plane to fly at Monroe and wasn't interested in an aerobat airframe.

Nearly ready for the maiden of my LA 7. Status: offline 		Here's a couple photos of the plane on the ground before take off. Trying to get some in the air, but my photographer says they don't look good. I am hoping that they are good enough to see that attitude of the plane to see if it's a stab issue.

Status: offline 		I have an Eflite Power 160 motor in the plane with a dummy radial engine photograph that I mounted to some 8 mm foam and hot glued it inside the cowl. It looks pretty real from a distance.

Status: online 		Well, spring break was last week and so I managed to put my LA-7, together. I am using a RCGF 62 motor and the overall weight of 18lbs. The only mod I did was use two elevator servos and of course it needed a larger fuel tank 32oz, so I added another servo plate just behind the existing tray. Looking for a spinner for it but I might just use whatever is on my spare box. Hope to maiden it this week.

Status: offline 		No updates for my LA7 as the weather is not cooporating out here

I hope to get a bunch of flights in on Friday and Saturday this week. I added some down trust in the motor as I suspect that was most of the problem with the plane wanting to climb while adding power. I checked horizontal stab and wing incidence and they were good.

Can't wait love this plane!

got one of your cockpit kits for my LA-7.
Very nice work. It painted up very realistically and the videos were GREAT
Whats the status on the scale SPINNERS and will the be available in RED?
also any plans for a 3 blade prop and spinner option.

Any ideas on how well the CG placement is? I am about .25" forward of what is called for on the manual.

I just bench ran my power setup on my LA 7. I ran WOT to get an idea of how much time I have. I got 3 minutes but only about 1000 watts. I may have to move up to Lipo's to get 2000 watts which is what I planned the power system to supply. Plan on ordering a new Progressive RC 1010 charger to handle 10 cell charges unless someone uses something better (which I would love to hear about)

No ESM is also Troy Built Models...I think KMP is bit bigger....doubt very much that a G62 will fit in the cowl without cutting it up. Many are struggling to get a decent sized engine into the cowl without cutting anything. That is one reason I went electric
