so one thing im still not sure about is once the system is all mounted up and working, and i fill up the reservoir for the first time, all the lines are full with air. once the pump starts flowing oil, it will go into tubes full of air, and on the other side of the tube is a sealed cylinder - where will all this air go ?

Rob (F15driver) had the same problem. Running the system moves the bubbles towards the oil tank. To help it alone remove the lines and hold them straight up as much as you can. This will allow the fluid to collect at the bottom. Fill the tank totally full and run the system several times. You will see the bubble at the tank get larger. This is the air in the lines collecting in the tank. Fill the tank again and keep doing this. We got all the air out of Rob's system in a couple of tries.

Remove which lines and hold them straight up ?

BTW - i guess the unit doesnt have any servo travel programming - do you set the valve travel mechanically by changing the length of the servo horn ?

I hope to test mine for the first time tommorow !

Robs lines had been cut to the correct length but not tied down in the fuselage, we could pull them up and out of the fuselage to allow the air to escape.

Just cycle the gear 3-4 times then refill the oil tank. Cycle again 3-4 times and then the system should be air free. Its a self bleeding system basically.

Not sure what your getting at about the servo travel. The valve is controlled by a servo so you should be able to program the travel of the servo to use the valve like any other manual valve.

But if you change the end poitn of the gear channel does the electronic controller still work well ?

My Eurokit hydraulic gear works perfect since the start ! test video:

It did take one pump of oil, a few cycles tilting the fuse in different directions, and then another pump of oil into the tank, to bleed most of the air out. but the gear works awesome after this short break in !

Im a happy camper ! seems like Eurokit did a really nice job with this hydraulic convserion. unlike other units, it worked from the get go !

Added some pics of the installation as it was done by craftsman builder Mr. Peter Nir.

Looks really good Lior,

what did you need to do to the stock gear air cylinders so the oil would work and not leak. This may be the new way to work gear for many jets.

Thanks

Kevin

Ok. Im' confused here. This thread indicates the need to use hysol to plug some hole or make new shuttle internals to avoid the oil blowback in the cylinders. Are you indicating that is no longer needed or i'm reading it wrong?
If no longer needed, is that due to the new gear design (versus the original used by Bart and other in this thread)?

Thanks

Thats exactly right. the new gear design has solid shuttles so no mods required.

If you read back in this thread there is information relating to the CG position. I found that the CG, that Jet Legend give is too far forward. I am flying mine with the CG at the back of the first wooden cross brace, in the engine compartment. (there is a photo of the position somewhere in this thread). A few pictures of mine flying at the weekend. http://www.rcuniverse.com:80/forum/m_5943833/mpage_9/tm.htm

Do you mean the front most wing spar ?

Did anybody have any trouble with the gear doors ? my main door on the right side doesnt close all the way up... it stops a little shy from the fuse.

Not the wing spar. The ply cross brace that goes over the engine and is held in by two bolts. I am pointing to it with the end of a screw driver. My doors shut OK but sometimes move when flying, with G load.

Well, I finally flew mine yesterday... I used John's CG position too.

Anyway, the MIG was very nice, felt very solid and easy to handle. The landings are a non-event - just so easy.

Hope to have a couple of pictures uploaded soon...

Cheers

Jeff

If you look closely at the bad hydraulic line you'll notice the main Red, Black and Blue electric lines that go into the side of the Jet Central Rhino. I'm 99% certain this electric line which powers the Kero Start on the turbine was laying on top of the hydraulic line. I hadn't run the turbine for awhile and it took 2 starts to get it going. I think the high current draw required to start these turbines warms the electric lines and because I had to go through the start routine twice, I think the electric lines were warm enough to soften the hydraulic line. When I hit the gear down switch, I think the pump hydraulic pressure burst the line and caused only one gear to go down before all the sewing machine oil blew into the engine bay area.

With the right main hanging down and the other two stuck in their up position, my choice was to land on the paved runway and skin the entire bottom or try to ease it into the grass in a nose high attitude. I chose the latter option and it was the right one. The right main gear base plate was separated from the strut which will need repair and two of the gear door hinges were broken. Two gear doors also were cracked in a couple of places and the right wing had a small indentation which is easily repairable.

The puff of smoke you see in the one frame is when the hydraulic oil was pumped into the engine area and some actually went through the turbine. Aside from a lot of grass on the inside of the airplane and the inlets having a bunch of grass, the FOD screen kept it all out of the turbine.

So, the lesson here is to pay particular attention to where your battery cables and engine power electric lines are run. Do not have them next to hydraulic or pneumatic lines. All in all, I was lucky that the right main being down did not cause the plane to cartwheel when it landed. The nose high landing with the turbine shut down saved the airframe. Lesson learned.

Hi Rob, Are you sure that these power lines get noticabley warmer during start? If they get hot enough to do that to the hydraulic pipe then the insulation must be degrading. This would mean thes cables are way undersize. What current draw are we talking about on a Kero strtengine any way?
