Frank - look at it this way. The YS cost xxx $ . If it was on a traditional 3 D plane (Morris, Pizzaz whatever, and you have a "close encounter of the earth kind" you lose a $150 ARF and a YS.
On a SPA3D you lose a $6 plane and a YS. Either way would suck, but the SPA3D 4 stroke crash would suck less :^o
FWIW, 4 Strokes seem to me to be less vulnerable to crashes than 2 strokes because of the carb on the back. (Up to a point, then no matter what engine it is they all are gonna break. - IE straight in at WOT on pavement etc.

Of course this is easy for me to say, running a used trade / swap ASP .65, I dont thave the $ in it you have in that YS.

Maybe just try it and fly it with a little less abandon than you would with a GMS .47 on it. If you dont feel comfortable then swap it out and put on a cheaper engine.

But I'll warn you, the first time you yank it out of a hover, you wont want to pull it back off of the plane :^)

I've been thinking about a GMS 76 (26 oz) on a 40" channel with a 48" wing span. And maybe using two servos for those long ailerons. Might be good to trim them down like the QHOR ailrons.
Perhaps 1.5 to 2 inches on the ends.
Or, you could start with a full 4" and cut them down as needed.

When I put the little .52 4-stroke on my SPA3D, I ended up making the mount about 1" longer, this gave me the space needed for the rear-mounted carb, min-servo and gear.
So, with the engine out that far, I figured it would be nose heavy, and kept the servos way back, but I ended up putting the battery forward

I just won a small GMS engine at a fun-fly, so my SPA3D Bomber project might be on hold for a while. (Only one radio left)

Well, I don't know what size for a 72 four stroke but I just found a used st 61 in my closet. I'm going to build a per plans model and try that on it. I've been building a 89% because i've had smaller engines. The tt 42 pulls it around but i NEED more.

I don't know about the wing but I would extend the fuselage about 2 inches. 4-strokes are heavier and will cause you to have to move your servo's and battery behind the wing for proper balance. Of coarse you could slide the wing back but I can't predict what that will do to the handling characteristics.

Just put a small video of the new spa3d on my page. The tt 42 is starting to come around. I'm still going to make one with the super tiger 60. If your connections fast check it out. I forgot to fly inverted for the video though.

If you are using a heavy 4 stroke, you might make it an inch or two longer, but I doubt you would need more than an inch.
More than likely just moving the battery around will give you proper balance with the plane built as per plans.

For the record, if the engine is heavy moving the wing back is going the wrong direction. Moving the wing either fwd, or extending the tail farther back would be the solution to a nose heavy SPA3D "IF" moving the battery is not enough.

If you are using a Saytoe :^) .72 it probably wont weigh much more than many of the .47 to 60 2 strokes. Those Saytoe's are pretty darn light for a 4 stroke.

Cautionary note, a .72 is gonna be a real powerhouse on a SPA3D. Use the power wisely. Great torque for yanking it out of hovers, and unbelievable vertical. However, if you "let it eat" at WOT for long looking for top speed you will probably have very little control of the plane. After all, they are "Flexible Flyers" and at very high speed not really predictable. I'd love to have a Saito .72 on mine, but would use that left stick with discretion
