I added two diodes to the tail of my dragonfly to make the tail motor last longer. I did this from new (2 days ago). When I fly my heli I notice that the tail now is turning to the right because it's not enough thrust generated by the tail motor. This is after I increase the subtrim of the rudder by 50%.
I wonder if this diodes mod is only for a seperate esc setup. I use the standard setup HB mixer and piezo gyro.
Perhaps I should use just one diode to increase the voltage of the tail motor.
I am new in heli and basically now I can get the tail to stop turning to the right.
What should I do?

I removed the diodes and now the tail is now going around in circle.

The same way or the oposite??? Just curious because I have the same problem. I have to hold 1/2 stick of right rudder to keep it straight while flying???

The diodes do two things to the DC voltage supplied to the tail motor. First they drop the voltage slightly and second they smooth the DC so that it's AC component ( this is what eats the tail motors) is reduced and you have a smoother or more pure DC power being applied.

This mod is really intended for micro e-helis that are using 3 cell LiPoly packs which supply a much higher voltage than the typical 7 or 8 cell NiMh packs in use. If applied to a stock setup, the diodes are likely dropping the DCV to the tail to a point where it can't keep up with the torque of the main rotor rotation. The diodes work well on both stock "boards" and separates, but are intended for use on the 3 cell 12 VDC helis that are normally running a brushless main motor.

The problem you are experiencing after removing the diodes should not be related to the diodes but might be the result of a tail motor going bad from age or too much heat being applied during soldering.

Hope this helps.

It was turning anti clockwise because the tail motor not generating enough thrust. I was told it is normal to have to use right rudder when you take off. But you should not need to hold right rudder once it hovers. Sounds like the tail is generating too much thrust, can you adjust the trim on the rudder to the right?

Thanks for the info Hoverup. I actually tried the diodes after I read your post but I didn't realise it's for LiPoli setup.
I just posted a question about main motor. Can you help.
Thanks again.

Your choice of a Graupner Speed 300 is a good one. This is the same motor supplied with the ModelSport Hornet and is more powerful and much longer lasting than the stock motor you now have. It is compatible with your "board" and you will really like the added power. It should easily get your heli with training gear off the ground and flying.

As to the tail motor, a few folks have had the insufficient T/R power problem you refer to. I have not and personally know of no others that I fly with that have.

The only other major improvement I would recommend is the use of a 2 cell E-tech 1200mah LiPoly flight pack. The reduction in weight when compared to the NiMh's and the increased duration due to the higher capacity will put a smile on your face for sure. Just be sure to read all the cautionary information on handling and charging these little wonders if you decide to go down this path. Dave at Aircraft-World.com in Japan has these at a good price and flat rate shipping of $2.50USD that is hard to beat.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info Hoverup. I'll replace the motor with speed 300 tomorrow. 3 weeks ago I destroyed a speed 300 in 2 minutes and 10 seconds when I installed it on my flying wing with 7 cell 1050 mah battery. The motor was so hot I could not touch it. When I opened the bottom lid I found the brushes were very thin and not conducting current anymore.
Maybe I had a lemon. This time I hope it will alright.
Thanks again for the info.

I'll check the LiPoli site.
