Sorry about that, I am building these for a customer. I just finished 2ea of the ESM 101in ws. I like ww1 planes but they dont pay the bills. I like the DC-3, but I like any planes that flies but jets..except for the sr71 that I made a mold for 110 in long that I have not built.

And thus initiates the collapse of the domestic and international freight industry. My guy at UPS is expecting layoffs as a result of this single customer. The price of model aircraft parts and accessories is expected to skyrocket with the loss of DJ volume. R&D at jet-cat has been temporarily delayed and pushed to second quarter 2011.

Of significant note: Air quality in the metro area is expected to immediately improve without all the toxic fumes and gases released in the painting and gluing in DJ's neighborhood. The EPA is predicting excellent air and water quality for the balance of 2011 or until DJ's factory resumes from hiatus.

Six,

Man, this is the koolest piece I’ve ever read. Wow! I’m smiling big time… I need all the smiles I can get right now ‘cause this week I’m havin’ my Achilles tendon repaired. Google Achilles tendon repair for actual videos. I'll be out for months but I still intend to maiden this puppy along with my T-33, Robin 400, V35, PT Stearman, and DO 335 on the same day sometime this year. You will know at least a week in advance.

Thanks again, Six…

Mr DJ

Ahh man.. glad to give some back... you have made me laugh many times...AND IT IS APPRECIATED.

Sorry to hear of the injury... so you got hurt on the half pipe in Aspen? Or were you surfing big waves off of Maui and got trashed in the reef? Or were you like me and took a tumble on some thin ice on the sidewalk this morning... think I cracked my left elbow... all swollen up.

Good luck on the recovery
... just keep hitting the morphine button.

Hi All,

This thread has been much too quiet lately!

Mr. DJ, my man, how is your recovery coming?? We are all pulling for you!!

I got my 3 blade Biela props for the DC-3. They are 20-10 props with the black blades and yellow tips. I'm still looking for a good hub that will look good on this bird!

I haven't heard from Tommy in about a month, so I'm due to rattle his cage early next week to see what's shakin'!

John

Hello DC-3 Lovers!

I just got another email from Tommy that paint work on my DC-3 is now complete, and that final assembly has begun!! Tommy expects to ship my bird in the next couple of weeks, so my guess is that I'll have it in hand by the end of April!! Woo hoo, just in time for the start of the summer flying season!!

Here are a couple of pictures of the progress so far. Enjoy!!

I've got just about everything i need for this build now, so I'll be really ready to jump in once it arrives!!

Hi zob007,

Thanks, I'm really looking forward to getting this airplane from Tommy! I've had a love affair with the DC-3 as long as I can remember, and I've always wanted to model one! The TMMY DC-3 finally gave me to the opportunity to make that dream come true!

Here is the final color scheme. I flew on this particular airplane about 30 years ago when I was just a boy. Knowing that I was crazy about the DC-3, my Dad booked a flight for us from Boston to Hyannis, Massachusetts. Ah, that was 30 minutes of pure heaven !!

How is your weather this winter in Brussels? We've had a brutal winter here in New England, but it's finally starting to show some signs of breaking!!

John, what up...

Your bird is the whitest one I've ever seen... No new progress on mine, been laid up as you know... I do know that I won't make my desire to maiden 5 birds on the same day: DC-3, Robin, Stearman, V-35, and T-33. Now just the DC-3 and T-33.

Hi Mr DJ,

Hey, I'm glad to hear you're still alive and kickin'!!

Yeah, she's one big ol' white bird alright! I was just thinking, I hope the color scheme makes the orientation easy to distinguish in flight? I've got a bit of trim painting to do on the underbelly, such as black stripes behind the engines designed to hide the exhaust/oil stains, which should help out immensely!

Anyway, I hope your recovery is going well, and that you stay active on the thread even if you are still laid up!

John

I better stay active, John, since I created it...if I don't, body snatchers like you will come along and take over .

I actually did run two more "self made" servo extensions through the center wing out to the engine firewall; I forgot that I will need another one for ignition cut off. So now I have one for choke servo, throttle servo, and engine kill switch. I've two fuel lines but I may use only one.
This is going to be a Stone Blast (oh oh, I'm givin' away my age by using such old school slang)

John,

I also sent my gear to Down and Locked (DnL) for electrict conversion. I'm done with air - I wrote air because I do not know how to spell pneumatics

I also sent DnL my gear from my newest jet: T-33. I will be sending them all of my retracts for conversion unless X-plane is a cheap mother. You see, the conversion cost a pretty penny, don't want to waste money on a BS bird, you feel me?

John,

When I talked about the added servo extension and fuel line; you do know that's x 2 for each side? So I have 4 fuel lines and 6 servo extensions. I also have running through the wing to the center hole 6 more extensions for 2 aileron and 4 flap servos. Man, that's a lot of freakin' wire up in there. Damn, now that I think about it, I will need to add more wire to the motors and batteries of the retracts and extension for the receiver. Holly chit, Batman, a freakin' nightmare, but I'm lovin' it

Hi Mr. DJ,

I hope your recovery is coming along nicely! I'll bet you're looking forward to the nice weather that's just around the corner!!

I just got a pair of very nice Tru-Turn propeller hubs for my DC-3! They sure do look sweet, tho' I'm a bit tempted to send them out to be chromed ! We'll see!

I have a question about your engine setup. Why are you planning to use both a choke, and a kill switch? A choke alone will kill the engine just fine, and that's all I
use on my gas airplanes. I like to K.I.S.S when it comes to my models !

John

John, my Brother…

U obviously have been fortunate in all your flying in this area; well, so have I but I'm down with added insurance.

Ok: I have both servo driven choke and an engine kill switch because:

- Loss of receiver power; throttle stuck in full open position; full tank – kill switch will stop from flying away
- Throttle servo sticks in full open and choke servo fails – kill switch will allow a dead stick landing
- Loss of transmitter power; throttle stuck in full open position – kill switch same as receiver loss in power
- Bird out of control – kill the mother
- Etc

There are more possibilities over the above; I can’t think of them all, but it is better to have and don’t need than to need and don’t have.

Mr DJ

Hi All,

Well, with Mr. DJ on the mend, this thread sure has gone quiet!! I hope that his recovery is coming along nicely, and that we can once again enjoy his baby face, and his writings here on RCU!!

OK, here are a couple of photo's of my baby during final assembly! Right now the scheme is kind of plain, but I'll be dressing it up quite a bit after the assembly and test flying stages have been completed! Now, I wonder who's bird will spread it's wings first, mine or Mr. DJ's???

Stay tuned for more when this bad boy arrives in Boston!!

Many thanks for the words and the recovery thoughts… I’m sure your bird will take flight before mine which is a good thang…even if mine is done, I’m gonna wait for you, Baby…

Hey Mr. DJ,

Wowza......... That sure is one big a$$ wing !!!

OK, this really blows! Nearly a month after making the final payment on my DC-3, I still hadn't received anything "official" from the shipping company about the delivery of my bird. To this point, I only had an "expected" ship date from Tommy. I've been traveling for the past couple of weeks, and figured the paperwork would be waiting for me when I got back home. Well, I was wrong, so I emailed Tommy on Thursday to get a status update on the shipment of my airplane. He checked with the shipper, and forwarded an email from the shipper showing a "estimated departure date" of April 4th !! No explanation or anything about the one month delay, just a "semi-official" ship date...... The timing really sucks because I'll be away again for a few weeks smack in the middle of the time the plane is supposed to arrive here in Boston.

Well, at least these turkeys aren't asking for my passport number, or some other BS, like they did with you, Mr. DJ.......

So, I'm looking at about 6 weeks before my baby arrives. Like I said, this blows!!

On the plus side of things, I went trailer shopping today, and now I know what I want/need to carry this baby. I've decided on a Haulmark 5x8 V-nose trailer with side door in white. The local trailer dealer had one without the side door, and he's looking to find one for me that has the door.

John
