None of my local hobby dealers are carrying the 5 cell World Electronics 720 ma pack that I have been using the last few years. Anybody know where to get this pack or a suitable replacement or individual cells ?

I buy 2200 mAh NiMH AA-size packs at www.batteryspace.com. Lot's of capacity for all-day racing and combat.

I've been getting packs from Radical RC also.

I think they have some 900-1000 mah NIMHs' that I have used.

I'd be tempted to use the AAA sized 800mah Eneloop batteries

http://www.radicalrc.com/shop/?shop=1&cart=3526406&cat=19

scroll down the page a ways, you can find them there.

Here is the link to their 6.0V regulators: http://www.maxxprod.com/mpi/mpi-21.html

They also sell SANYO cells and offer a battery pack building service.

Hi!
GP have cells! Just solder together and race!

I would be very cautious to use the second generation NiMH cells like the "Eneloope"cells if I was flying Spektrum 2,4gHz radio as those cells can not put out as much amps as the "Red" GP racing cells can.
I had a "brown out" two years ago using 4 of those "Eneloope" 800mAh cells. Luckily I was high enough and at 25m high I got control of my Q-500 racer and was able to land Ok. Nothing wrong with none of the cells when I checked them out after landing...

jaka - thanks for the input. Most of my batteries are still 350 mah NiCd packs (5 cell). Plenty of current for the analog servos I use.

NiCd are still my first choice for airborne packs, due to the low resistance (higher current capability).

JR now has some little 7.4V servos that will run off 2 cell Lipo batteries direct, along with the spektrum RX's, etx. That might be a slick setup! No extra regulator to worry about.

For you guys wanting to run regulators with your Lipo packs, the little 6V Losi is proven by all the top NMPRA pilots. Most all the guys have switched over to a 400-800 2 cell LiPo of their choice, and the Losi regulator. It's very small which makes it very easy to pack in the plane. Most all the guys are running digital servos which draw more current, and the Losi regulator handles those requirements with ease.

http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=LOSB9609 ... $19.99

Weight...0.3 oz (8 g)
Dimensions... 1.1 x 1.1 x .22 in (28 x 28 x 5.7mm)
Max Cont Current...5A
Output...6.0V +/- 0.1V

This Associated reg is virtually the same thing, and it's only $15.99. http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=ASC636 $15.99

Now, if you are using "standard" size digital servos in your racers which can draw much more current.. I could see wanting a larger regulator like posted above.

My thoughts..

Randy, I saw a post you made a year ago or so and even though I am not a competitive racer I have shifted all my Rx batts over to the 6V Losi switched regulator and 2s lipos and they are the best.

Thanks for sharing that.
