I miss the 80's. The ladies on the covers of MAN and RCM really got my attention. Of coarse I was in highschool then.

Hey, come on guys, airplanes were not the primary thing on your mind at 16, right?

There used to be pretty girls on all the magazines. Then a group of coots got together and complained about how immoral it is to have women holding airplanes in cool clothing. I agree, they could get into being like "Easyrider", which I would object to as well, but these guys were even attacking daughters and wives who were on the covers. They would be in shorts, or summer dresses, and were pretty.

Now we get pictures of ol farts with cigar stained teeth and a beer gut holding their rubber powered thingydabber. (And he is wearing shorts and a tank top, Bleah)

And they wonder why they cannot sell magazines at the news stand anymore?

Looking at a magazine rack full of mags, what would get attention? Goober holding a model of his Buzzard Bombshell, or a 19 yr old princess holding a Turbine?

Why does Sports Illustrated have a swimsuit addition?

Face it, we are in a male dominated hobby, and any advertiser will tell you, if your selling to males, use females to get their attention.

Wired,
I think you have a problem with women in general. From the tone of your post and the fact that you only have 20 posts on RCU and many of them have been spent insulting this person it makes me think you have issues.

You can't expect to post your opinions in a public forum and not have them analyzed and commented on by others.

I agree with BasinBum 100% on his last post. Maybe its best to keep your thoughts to your self. Besides if i told you your wife just was just not right at all, you would get bent all out of shape wouldnt ya. maybe you should spend the rest of your posts answer questions and asking questions and not putting down companys and the way they like to advertise, the world dosnt revole around the way you think. IMHO...

I dont know about you guys, but women and aircraft are two of my favourite things in life! I still have many copies of the old RCM mags with the attractive model holding the model

I will never be ashamed of blatantly loving both, and lucky for me, I have a lady that supports me in my aircraft addiction, so i really lucked out

I am thinking about getting back into R/C. Fortunately, there a lot of clubs within a reasonable drive from my home. Without question, if I showed up at a field and heard the kind of no class, hateful garbage that is exhibited in this "discussion", I would pack my van back up, drive away and never look back. Life is just too short to put up with such people. I only discovered RCU a few weeks ago. That I already am faced with the need to start a large ignore list is very said, indeed.

Jan,
If your going to let other peoples behavior effect you so much you might not want to get back into the hobby. You'll find all sorts of people at every field exhibiting behavior good and bad. A lot like the rest of life.

I've never put someone on an ignore list here, if I don't like a thread I just unsubscribe from it and don't read it anymore. There are some opinions I find useless and many posts that don't seem to have a point so I move on.

If you start flying again there will be people at your field that do and say stupid things, you can't control them and why would you let them effect your ability to enjoy this hobby?

I appreciate the counsel. However... I am not a prude, nor do I have thin skin. I am a volunteer chaplain at a maximum security prison (where they keep murders and child molesters). The inmates I deal with tend to demonstrate more respect for women and have better conversational manners than what has been going on here.

I am not quitting RCU because a few rude people hang out here.

But no way would I belong to and actively participate in a local group that put up with such nonsense from their members while participating in that group's activities. If we ignore something, we are condoning it. If we say nothing, we become part of the problem.

It's good to know murderers, child molesters and rapists have good manners. It makes you wonder why they are even in jail.

I don't think people will be as rude in person as they tend to be when they can hide behind anonymous screen names. I'm sure they wouldn't be as rude if they lived in very close quarters with no way of avoiding each other.

So are you going to buy a plane and start flying again or just get on here and preach?

They know why they are in jail and I am glad there are jails. My point, which obviously is a bit much to be making in this forum, is that even people who Joe Average Citizen thinks very little of generally has a well developed sence of respect for their fellow beings. Except of course for the glitch that drives their crime.

If hiding behind an avatar disables a few manners, the thoughts were already there. There's discussions in the clubhouse about attracting more young people and women in general. Do you think this behavior will attract them?

I have a couple of kits and I bought RealFlight Saturday. I have quite a bit of house remodeling to do before I can have a workshop and decide on the electronics and engines. I figure I'll crash RealFlight for a couple of months before I burn some fuel.

Actually, I am not a "preacher". Different religion.

Sorry if you think I am preaching. However, I absolutely believe that if I accept hateful speach without challenge, I might as well be saying it myself. Martin Niemöller had a very compelling message for all of us.

I'll go wander around in the scale and scratch forums again ...
(where they keep murders and child molesters)
Many Catholic Priests have been convicted of child molestation and yet it is still OK to be a Catholic Priest.

Many modelers seem to like pretty women holding model airplanes, yet that seems to be a no-no?
