SkyDude -> YS 1.10FZ on GP Lancair? (7/11/2003 11:51:40 AM)

Greetings,

Anyone have the new YS 1.10 yet? I was thinking of putting one on the Great Planes Lancair. YS claims this is the same size as the YS .91, so I think it should fit.

Thanks much!

I don't think it will fit without cutting the side out of the cowling. I'm in the process of building my Lancair and engine selection has been a nightmare. I didn't want to cut up the cowling, so I've ended up with a Saito 90TS. The twin fits perfectly in the cowl, but I may be on the low end of the power spectrum.

Let us know how the YS works out if you go that route.

I have the same plan as scydude.
Please tell me the with of the cowling where the engine sits.

I'm leaning towards the Saito 100 now. The YS engines are way more expensive and many people I've talked to say they require more maintenance.

The Saito 100 is about the same size as the OS 91, has a little more power and is about two ounces less in weight.

As for fit, I think the cowl will need a hole on the right side to let the top of the engine come out. I'm not too worried about this as I plan to get the black and gold version. The two gold rocker caps should look kind of cool. Too pretty of an engine to be completely hidden, IMHO.

It will be a while before I get to building this plane. I've got two others that I need to build first. Hopefully, I'll have a little more building skills after the Lazy Tiger P51 and the Super Sportster and will be able to do a primo job on the Lancair.

Now if I can just cure my laziness and procrastination problem... :stupid:

Agreed on the weight but not on the price.

Chief Aircraft:
Saito 100 Gold 299,- $
YS 110 FZ 334,- $

btw I think a Laser 120 4stroke would fit completely into it.

the extra 34.00 is well spent imho. i have several YS and love em all...very dependable and i don't have to mess with them. just use 20/20 and run the fuel out when done flying and you will love them. why not invert the YS in the cowl? no holes in side of your cowls then. ya can't beat a pressurized tank also...
