I know I can get it done, but there has to be a better way. My idea is to cut out the hinged section and insert a new one. I feel that this will probably weaken the entire elevator. Any other ideas?

That is aggrivating!! If I could'nt shimmy a new one in the place of the broken one I would just wack the whole thing off and rehinge the whole thing.

not sure... maybe just put another one right beside the broken one? Or even one on each side of it...

I was thinking about cutting the section of the elevator out that contains the old hinge, and epoxying in a new section. Any reason I shouldn't do that? Maybe I'll try digging out the old hinge and putting in a new one first. The only issue with that is that the balsa is already saturated with CA.

You dont have to get the old hinge out. Just cut it off flush with the le and te. You can cut a new slot and put a new one in right on top or beside it and then a bit o thin ca. As far as cutting out a portion of the elevator, by the timne you get that done you could have just cut it off and rehinged the whole thing,,...John

Right on. I guess I was looking at more of a challenge than what is required. I seem to always go right to the most complicated solution.

Here is the method I have used. Cut a new slot next to the broken hinge, bend a replacement hinge in half, flex the surface fully to one side, insert the new hinge and glue with thin CA. To keep these type hinges from breaking, rub a candle or crayon on the hinge line before installing. This will keep CA from hardening that part of the hinge.

Moral of the story: Use nylon hinges with pin. Daz...
