JR, your ass-ump-tions are showing! :-)

Any imagined conspiracy that sees me as a VP candidate next year is just ABSOLUTELY LUDICROUS! No way at all.

I don't think Sandy Frank will need nor want any such "help" to win another term if he chooses to run.

Bill Lee

Let me add the following quote from my outgoing mailbox toady:

Bill Oberdieck
Chairman Nominations Committee

Bill,

Thank you for taking the time to visit with me Thursday morning and confirming that Sandy Frank has nominated Bill Lee and Doug Powell to run as candidates against him in the AMA District VIII election. As I told you I was already aware of the similar action previously taken by Horrace Cain.

In case anyone cares, the entire thread is at

Bill Lee and Doug Powell are AMA District 8 AVP's (associate vice presidents) appointed by the current District 8 VP (district vice president) Sandy Frank.

Hey,
Those guys work too hard to be mis identified. Both of them are in the thick of things that happen in D8, more than just AVP's.

Doug Powell is the D8 Contest Coordinator and a Life Member.

Bill Lee is an AMA Fellow (which is a Life Member also), a D8 AVP, and the D8 webmaster.kk

So what is the problem with these guys running against the current VP. I don't get it.

Hey Jim-

I just noticed this; pretty subtle, Bud.
"Toady" huh.....
Can't think of a more appropos descriptor for the twosome that signed up to stuff the nominations quota on behalf of their hero, who is apparently having an ego crisis over the remote possibility that he as an incumbent could lose his AMA officer hat - would have to retire "that" shirt, too. How cruel would that be?
Anyhow, nice one! - that should be in the dictionary as the primo example of the phrase "Freudian slip."
Very imaginative......I wonder if there is anyone else with a mailbox named toady???

Only three candidates, maximum, are allowed on the ballot.

So if there are three candidates and the incumbent looses, what is the gripe? I guess I still don't get it. If someone wants to run, through their hat in early!

It has nothing to do with when the nomination is made. The Nominating Committee choses what they consider to be the most qualified candidates. If you nominate your two best friends to run against you, what do you think their campaign statements might say? What is to stop them from withdrawing after the ballot is set, but, before the election? What if they win and name you an AVP and resign, then you become VP?

Simply put, if you can control who you run against, do you have a better chance of winning?

Abel,
Took you long enough! There was NOTHING Freudian there at all. Look that word up. I think you will find that ALL of the definitions listed seem to fit!

Before you pounding on Sandy, please go back and read the note carefully. You might (as in SHOULD) see that Horrace ALSO tried to stuff the nominations process, however his guys did not accept the nominations.

I would not jump to conclusions. Keep an eye on the AMA site to see what action the Nominating Committee took. Probably will be up today or tomorrow.

Jim-
Went back and read again, and I get it, I think.
Horrace tried to farkle the system, didn't succeed. Why not? Never heard any names in the pipeline, so I surmise his guys didn't buy into it. Hoss just didn't show the aptitude to cultivate fawning butt kissers. Would you assign that failing to the debit column?
I have seen enough of Hoss's actions and rants to have a pretty good notion of where he is coming from, and I expect you have too. The stuff-the-nominations tomfoolery was pulled on him when he ran against Holland for EVP. This obviously scared the crap out of the GOBs and they loaded the deck to keep him out. Hoss was done unto, and he's just having a go at doing unto those that done unto him. If he had pulled off (or does) hoisting them by their own petard, I'd be leading the rooting section.
I think I know where Hoss is coming from. What do you figure is the other guy's excuse?

Do I have to go there? I mean we are talking about ... Oh, never mind.

One of the three (SF,BL, or DP) will probably show up some day somewhere and swear up and down they were misunderstood and abused children. Bet you that next time all of these guys will be more subtle about clobbering the election process.

I see you did not lose your net connection. I hope all is well. My best to all of your friends and family. The media makes it look like you got hit pretty hard by Claudette.

While I may be out of my league, I don't see all the big city politics within the AMA. I think I will leave this stuff to you guys! I am going to fly. Suppose to be 91 today!
