Guys, I have a real P-51 Mustang that I would be happy to provide "up close" digital pictures of to those of you that need them for documentation or building. Just let me know what you want to see and I post them for you. i.e. wheel wells, panels, cockpit ect...

Is it yours?
Or is it just avilable to you?
Either way, if you can post ANY pics of detailed areas such as the landing gear oleo areas, strut details, as well as detailed scoop pics of the radiator scoop and the oil cooler intake and exhaust scoops that would be cool!
of course, cockpit pics are always great for details!

Also what version is it?

It kind of is,... and kind of not. I am responsible for the upkeep of the last P-51 to be in the USAF inventory. I'm a Air National Guard Aircraft Maintenance Officer in Charleston, WV and I'm responsible for making sure that it is kept in museum condition (for the USAF Museum). It use to fly with our unit and is the actual one to fly in the USAF P-51 decommissing ceremony at Wright Patterson in 1957. It sets in our hanger and I fool with it every day. I can't help myself. It's my baby (if you know what I mean). Anyhow, I can,... and will post as many pics as possible.
If you have a special area that you need a photo of, I'll get it.

I've suggested to RCADMIN that he might consider another (NO NOT ANOTHER!!) link for just full scale aircraft (up close) pictures for the purpose of contest documentation and reference. I'd like to have a place where ANYONE taking reference pictures of full scale aircraft can post them so that they don't get lost in older threads! So many airshows, So many planes, So many camera's.
Everyone could benefit from detailed photos; from Master Top Gun builders to basement scale builders. What do ya think?

Even though I don't have a present requirement for up close pictures of a full size Mustang, I still like to look and dream. My main point is Thanks very much for your generous offer to provide this service. Yes, a separate thread of full scale photos would be a service to all scale builders. Many thanks for your generousity. Charlie

FalconWings10,
You are one lucky individual! Could you tell me/us more?... Does/can it fly at any moment? Is it upgraded or left as the day it last landed? Is everything operational; guns fire, old radios work...? Sorry to blast you but I couldn't even imagine getting close to one, let alone be able to play with it. Thanks. By the way, pictures would be great because I am building one currently, well, forever now I guess...

Sorry guys for not posting any pictures yet! I've been out of town, plus I'll be out next week also. I promise some great pics when I return so please be patient. Below is a link to our plane.

http://www.p51.mustangsmustangs.com/survivors/p51/44-72948.shtml

The same site is absolutely great if your a Mustang lover. (both car and planes). This plane has NEVER been modified and is as it was shortly after flying the decommissioning ceremony at WPAFB in 1957. Sadly, it doesn't fly anymore. Her heart (Merlin) is on display right beside her sister at the United States Air Force Museum. The members of our Air National Guard unit have prized her and taken care of her for nearly 40 years. She's a grand lady.
Let me share a story with you. We needed tires for her because the ones that are on her are dry rotted very bad and no longer hold air. I told my commander that she was going to get a new pair of shoes, if I had to buy them myself. Well, ... I price them. Jez. I don't make that much money. I thought, ... where could I get some tires. Being a long time lover of mustangs, I contacted the owners of another one of her sisters, "CRAZY HORSE" at Stallion 51 in FL. I got in touch with one of the kindest men that I've ever had the pleasure to talk to, Pete Lauderback. He and his other very kind brothers own and operate "CRAZY HORSE". I explaned my situation about our tires so he donates (for free) a fantastic set of diamond tread tires to us to use on our bird. Plus a free tail wheel and tubes for each. Damn! These guys are very proud of being warbird loving Americans. As if I didn't say thanks enough to their entire team, If you see them at an airshow this year, thank them again for me. Gotta go before I start crying.

A guy here in Utah owns a P-51, it sets up at Salt Lake International. It has the scheme with the black and white stripes on the wings near the fuselage, he's selling it for 3 million+. I'd love to have that thing... I'd hate to pay for maintence and adjusting the plane when the FAA makes new "rules." THat stuff is expensive on old planes...

I actually got to fly formation with the only B-29 flying last year. We also had a B-24 in formation with us. I have a 9 inch Aerial camera mounted in the plane and got some cool shots. I came in above them and then dropped down beside them to take more pics. It was pretty fun. How many 37 year old guys can say they flew formation with a B-29! What a rush!!
