Status: offline 		Hi, I am trying to design a model of a Boeing 747. I intend to use 4 electric ducted fan units. I am unsure of what airfoil to use. I would like to keep it as scale as possible, but I'm aware that the airfoil on the real 747 might not be suitable for a model. In addition, I would like to have all of the control surfaces on the wings functional. Do the flaps and slats operate independently? Are there any good sources on the web to find out more information on this airplane? So far, all I have is a .3ds file of the airplane, and a demo version of Compufoil.

Status: offline 		Sounds really good, good luck. I'll be watching your progress as I'd like to do the same one day. I wish there was a kit or an ARF, but I understand Boeing doesn't like models of their airplanes. Let me know if I can help, particularly in the information about the real 747s. I fly B747-400s at UAL.

Yes Boeing don't like and will not give out plans and details officially.

But due to regulations and planning - they need to give out details.

I am planning on a 767 in the near future and the 3 views have helped speed this up.

Status: offline 		What if you place a fuselage half from a plaster kit on a water jet machine and slice the fuselage into individual sections. Then trace these sections and scale up.

Status: offline 		Hey, thanks for your reply. I've decided to put the project on hold for a bit. I received some plans for a foam 777 that I'm planing to build first, so that i can get some experience working with foam. After that, I plan on buying the plastic model, to use as reference, and to get some cross sections from. From there I will make a foam plug of the fuselage, from which I will make a fiberglass fuselage. I am hoping to be able to detail the interior. Though I imagine making 300 or so seats will get quite tedious.
