I have a oxidized Cox clip that isn't working very well.

I have been using a cotter pin and while it does work better but, I don't want to mess with my fingers and the prop.

What are good sources for Glow plugs for a black widow ? Do I need to worry about shims ?

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Harjit

A good place for Cox parts is Burnis Ray at Parts is Parts. Tons of stuff to restore your Cox or other make of engine. Cox .049 heads are $8.

Later,
Tim

I like the following simply because it allows me to use the standard glow plug battery/starter that I use with other planes.

I've been using a "Magnum" brand Glow plug clip, it has a spring to close it and applies a higher pressure to the contacts, which is needed to really make good contact and ensure the glow plug in the Norvels gets full voltage. I even replaced the pair of cables with a heavier gage wire (used coiled cord taken from an extensible electrical extension 18 AWG) to retract the clip fast when I disconnect it as soon as engine starts. Prevents tangled cords and makes operation safer... I'll never use the Cox type clip again!
(BTW-I also put this type of coiled cord in my home made starter, and it works nicely)

I will have to try one of those head lite clips. I have one of those nicad clip on batteries. I let it sit around for around ten years and to my amazement it charged up and works fine.
This and my electric starter will make starting a lot easier.

I bought one of the Model Lite clips.

Unfortunately, it didn't fit the head very well. I flipped the prongs to make it easier to clip on (big piece on bottom and small piece on top) and it now works very well.
