it would be great to see your big hun slayer giving chase behind me lol.

I would love that as well. Maybe some long range planning can make that happen for me as well.

lastly for the night, after shaping the sub-leading edge, I sheeted second side.

here you can see both sides.

I'll pull second side tomorrow, mate the two, and place/shape the leading edges.

Looking very nice Casey!! Next: the trick is to attach the elevator hinge to the stab.

Excellent: Jose sent me your link last night so I could take a look at your build. I finished the wings yesterday on my 109 and also the horizontal stab. I beleive I will finsih up the surfaces today and perhaps get a little covering done. I have also done quite a bit of soul searching over power. I live in COL and it occurs to me a larger engine would suit my altitude a bit better but I really want to be competitive in scale.

Did alittle last night, not much, but I made two stab tip blocks out of some med. grade 3/8ths. Now I figure I could have waited to place these blocks until after I had mated the two surfaces and placed the leading edge, but as the horzontal stabilizer is already being built this way, why wait. Also, (and the main reason for this) is that this will allow me to do a much more final shaping of the airfoil out to the tip. As the surface I'm working on is still on the board, there will be no flexing of the delicate horizontal while trying to shape the tips giving me a nice clean shape all the way to the tips.

started off by ruffing in some 3/8ths...

then used a razorplane to bring it abit closer to shape...I tried to shape it at this point to within a 1/16 of its final shape. This way I don't have to be so agressive with my T-bar sander to finish it out....

One side sanded to its final shape...I've still left it alittle fat on the edges so I can do some shaping of the tip to the elevator later.

But the airfoil is there. Now to sand other tip and move on to repeating process for other side before mating the two and placing/shaping leading edges.

Thank you. I have been wrestling with the rudder mechanism a bit this morning as I dont like the exposed controls. Someone makes a system that runs on a formica lined slot that uses a wire to actuate the control. I have seen this rotary type system on sailplanes and it is being marketed, somewhere, for pylon racers.
Also discussed converting the OS 160 to spark for easy of starting and the smaller fuel cell should compensate for more stuff at takeoff weight.
I will check in on your build from time to time and let you know what I discover on this hidden rudder control system.

I have seen the product online...not sure it would be able to be used because of the geometry already going on in the tail area (with the elevator and retract)...dunno

let me know, I'll put my brainpan to it too!

After some careful shaping, the tips of the horzontal stabilizer are done on one side(upper or lower, you pick lol)....

now I'll glue in the tips for the other side and wait for them to set. I can then mate the two together as well as mount the linkages, then place the leading edge and shape!

needed something to do while I waited on the glue to dry, so I worked on the antenna mast.

Started by laminating 3 - 5/8th x 1/8th pieces of basswood...

ruffed the shape....then started sanding......

I needed to cut a groove down the back to insert some 1/64th ply to simulate the back of the mast.

used Aerofoil to cover mast before inserting ply(also pre-covered)...

alittle glue, and one eye hook....

I'll add a few rivets at a later time, as well as insert threaded rod in the base, so I can remove for transport.

didn't turn out too bad...

Thank you Evil,

My son(7 months old) woke up at 3:00am, I couldn't get him to bed, so we went out to the shop! lol

I plan on working out a scale looking base plate for it, but I'm gonna wait until I've got most of the internals done. It may depend on how I do the canopy also.

Thank you,

the "fin" on the back is a little big, but I think its pretty close. When I get the chance I'll put in the rivets down the fin and carve a base.
