Default The Aquathrust Vector Drive

I have always wanted to build this kind of unit for variuse raesons one no need for fins of any kind on on vertualy any hull designe even hulls not intendid for water but space!
I knewI had a challange coming and after alot of reserch to find the right mini jet drives and most of all the Vector Ball head and how to make it,it finaly was a reality the other night. The ball is a solid ball in a socket that is smothe in operation and that can be moved by servos with high precition as that is very important with a Vector Drive as slopyness is not good.

Just about any type of motor can be used depending on how fast you want it to go and your space available for it,I will use brushless motors water cooled of course just like on the boats though not necessary since the impellor is so small and high torque not that necessary iether in most aplications but there definitly available with these motors ,bruched work very well, also even those Red bilge pumps can be used.

There are 2 sizes so far this one is the smaller the next is about double in diamiter and is good for those big subs that require even more thrust. Both can be installed in tandem and offer unparalled manueverability and reliability as its so simple,no more weeds getting in the prop no worries about hitting them but most of all the smothe manueverse like a Squid can only do!

To me this is the future of subs to come in both RC and full scale as hull designes and speeds and munuverability demands a different more advanced drive.
Kind of like the eveolution of the prop aitcraft to what is now in the Jet Age what a difference! Imagine if the Jet Engine never came to be.

Well here is a vid of the AquathrustVector Drive prtotype.

Here is a taste of whats to come but this one is here today and is one of my most favorite subs the Octura XL .

This sub uses a graupner Jet drive and a regular can 12 volt motor water cooled and this is going at about 1/4 thraughtle ! She is very fast super manuverable and very preciese in the water a joy to fly yes thats right fly in the water.

This sub fitted witha Aquathrust Vector would be even more manueverable.
She turns in about a foot or less and rolls to about 45 degrees very cool indeed.!

It looks a lot like the top of a roll on anti-perspirant bottle that has been modified. Are these parts all custom machined, or is this a modification of existing materials?

That's a beautiful pond you're running in! Must be fun steering your subs through the arch underwater

Just got the mini jet drive units and will be testing them ,these will be matted to the Vector head to make the Aquathrust Vector Drive.

These mini jet drives are amazingly powerfull and compact that make them idel for subs, motor shaft 2mm?,but standard mounts great for brushles motors.

Removed from the NQD jet boat there a great deal at 29.00$

Yes I saw it ,and yes the 4 point pivot is good also and will probably make mine that way as well as that was the original designe but for simplisity and less passthrews I kept it at 2 rods, with the advent of a computerized  radio the transitions are so smothe that the stres on the linkages and ball are far less than a regular radio set up.

Ill be using this Vector Thrust Head on a jet frive and at full power the unit will be subject to great forces ,fortunatly so far the ball rotates  very smothly at about 45 psi which translates to several pounds of thrust at that apature!

It will come in 2 sizes so far large subs and small subs.

Sofar the mini jet drive is very good! There super powerfull just a bit less at 12 volts than the Graupner units at half the price and size!

Ill be installing them 2 each in my current build the Royall Naboo Starship ,I will run the  motors in the wet ,watercooled of course from prescription pill bottle fits perfect and sealed.
Only the jets ,no need for the Aquathrust unit in this build, she is going to be a beuty!

That would be so perfect for a Star Ship Enterprise 1/350 conversion to submarine.
