Status: offline 		I have, it is a nice flyer with a black widow. I covered the wings with low temp covering and the foam was OK.

Status: offline 		The Whizard is a great flyer! Not so good for inverted flight... but otherwise a fun, fairly easy 1/2A trainer/sport flyer.

I have built three - two when I was a teenager in the mid 80's and one about 4 years ago (or 5 or6?) which I still have and fly with a TD 049/throttle sleeve set up.

I like it a lot!

Status: offline 		I had 2 as a teen ,  honestly I`m thinking of getting another ( even though it is huge for my tastes) just because of how sweet it flies!

Simple to build , simple to fly and at about 30-50 feet in the air very forgiving. The dihedral wing is a good mix of fun and forgiving.

If you lay the wing out flat and add ailerons as I did with my second , it is quite sporty.

Status: offline 		I've had three... all were way too heavy for my 'product engine'. Perhaps with a TD it would be better, or an .061. I've heard of clubs flying them with .09 and a streamer, combat style.

Status: offline 		I had 2 of them a long time ago. Probably when they were introduced. Flew one with an Adams actuator/Golden bee R/O and it was a very pleasent flyer. The other was 2 channel with a TD049 and while it was fun it lacked the charm of the origional one. Glad to read that someone is contemplating a RO for the thing as it's a great flyer in that mode.

Status: offline 		First one I flew getting back into 1/2a. good flyer, a tad heavy but not too bad for the trainer it is. Watch the throws on that rudder, keep it as they suggest in the setup instructions, it is a great trainer.

Status: offline 		Thats an old (60 yrs old) mine tailings field near my house. Its basically pulverized rock left over from gold mining. Nothing grows on it. In the winter its a great place to fly, but a snowmobile trail runs through the center. In the summer its pretty rough but you can still fly some smaller stuff there.

Its priceless to fly my Whiz off of the grass club field, and taxi to and back from the runway... it looks so small in the grass. The 1 1/4 wheels make it possible though. The throttled TD 049 works great, its a Dickybird model

Status: offline 		A pal n FL has one converted to a twin rotor autogyro.
It flies fine, but I think it has a .10 glow engine to compensate for the extra drag of the rotors.

Status: offline 		I built one in the 70's or 80's; I don't remember which. I flew it with a cox Golden Bee and pulse rudder. It flew very nicely and hangs in my garage right now. I still have the engine and radio. I will get my pulse rig checked out and it will fly again this summer. It is heavy for an 0.49 but coud do simple things. I may build another one and put new three channel gear in it for the fun of it. But that will have to wait until next winter. I will build a new wing probably.

Status: offline 		I still have my Whizard thatis a bit ragged now. Two channels and Black Widow. Our club used to have Whizard races and it was a riot. Especially as half the people got their engines running while the other half struggled and then when they got theirs started, the first starters were running out of fuel. I painted mine with a foam compatible spray paint, orange...and it still is a good flyer, although not as sohisticated as the other things flying about nowadays...but still it flys...

I bought it , and figured I would just put my old but trusty G-mark 061 on  it  just like I did back in the day , but with lighter radio gear this time of course.

Should be a great one to train my son on.

We will probably head over to dads house and get his plane out of the cobbwebbs.
It should be a great time  with all 3 of us flying at the same time.

Status: offline 		I learned to fly on a Whizard. Friend of mine and I split the cost of airplane and radio (we were both college students in the late '70s and had NO money!), I did the building, provided the engine (cox Golden Bee), and he bought the radio (Hobby-Lobby 3 channel with the 5 pin servos). Covered the wing with white econocoat, painted the fuselage and tail in red and white aerogloss. Hand-launched in a northeast Mississippi cow pasture. IT FLEW! We taught ourselves, and had a blast! As long as we didn't overcontrol too low, the plane was stable enough to self-correct. When the golden bee leaned out at the end of the flight, that little plane would move out pretty well. Later on, I was able to buy my first radio, an EK 5 channel "little red brick". That was actually a little lighter than the Hobby-Lobby radio, and the Whizard flew even better.

I can't remember what happened to that old plane. I have a new one sitting on the workbench ready to be finished. Set up with micro servos and (gasp!) A BRUSHLESS ELECTRIC MOTOR (I know, I know, but it's sooo easy[>:])

Status: offline 		Jaspur, I don't. My camera has stopped working. Probably gonna have to invest in a new one . I've got the major assemblies finished, need to hinge the rudder and elevator and cover/paint the fuselage. Wing is finished and covered with....yep, white econokote. I may cover the fuse and tail with doculam and paint it.
