Strange thing is, most of the guys that fly at my field love to see what I'm going to come up with next.

Some were skeptical, some were amused, but after seeing a couple of the SPADS fly, they understood....

This isn't just about looks and impressing others, it's about creating, experimenting, learning, and pushing the envelope without spending a ton of cash.

This sure keeps my interest up...but then I'm a little ADD.......what....huh.........new plane.......where.......

BASH A SPAD TODAY....AND STILL FLY TOMORROW!

That's OK fellas - they are the ones missing out on a unique aspect of the hobby! It's their loss! To each their own.

Oh man............I could've had a SPAD!

Really! I still remember several weeks after the Spad site first went on line I got an e-mail from an avid float flyer in Ca who was tickled to have finally found the perfect float plane because he was tired of soggy airplanes. He bagged his Rx and batt and was having a blast. And anyone who was at Spadfest will never forget the hose we used to wash the mud from our planes. Call it fear of the unknown, or simply pissed that some are having so much fun for less effort...heck I don't know. Like fish in the water under the bridge. Some will just flow happily along with the current, some will stagnate at the dam, some will drown in the infinate ocean, and some will climb up the bank and go in a different direction. Each to their own man.

I just wish that as i'm climbing up the bank somebody wasn't pissing on me trying to wash me back into the lake!

Jumping into the middle of a waterproofing thread by a bunch of guys in the church of balsa and yelling "Praise be to Spad" is very poor form. We don't have to go hunting for arguments, plenty of them come our way by themselves.

That's my opinion.

I totally disagree Steve, it was a similar comment made by tattoo in one of the combat forums that has me building with plastic. If tattoo would have never said anything i probably still would be in the dark. Just my 2 cents!

As far as flying badly, I now have 3 streamers. 1 from an identical SPAD and 2 from "bat"s with my .40 size DPS that has survived 2 midairs and I think it flys very well thank you. No losses,,,,, yet.

Oh yeah, it IS easy to clean.

I build and fly spad, hence why I caught this thread. But when a scale builder is looking for tips on keeping electronics dry, telling him to "build a spad" isn't always going to draw the most complimentary responses.

Don't be too sure of that...

After introducing Spads to my club about three years ago with a Derelict for combating, the next year I was out with a(THE)Spazzler and showed them what a fun fly spad will do and then bringing out a trainer, my Spadet SP-25(copy of the Sig Kadet LT-25), and then this year with a PQHOR and SPA3D...I was disappointed and abit hurt when I came to the field for our 4th of July fun fly. I brought out more planes then I usually do for a long afternoon of flying. I unloaded my balsa Sig SE first and as I was doing so an older, giant scale flyer starts laughing and said."this is the first time I've seen you come to the field with a REAL plane!" I was PISSED!! Having thought that I'd built a good and solid reputaion for SPADS(we even sell coroplast in the clubhouse!!)I got angry. I had words-ANGRY WORDS-with him(which may not have been the best way to handle the situation.) He apologized and we smoothed things over.

Just goes to show You some people can't leave a sleeping Dog alone.
No matter how You strive to show SPADs are real and here to stay people will bash SPADs every chance they get.
TOO bad for them.

I have gotten to the point that when I want to let someone know about SPADS, I just PM them. I know it is a cop out, but at least a negative spad bashing thread won't start.

Heh heh....I'm glad I'm in such esteemed company!

I went to the slope the other day with a brand new Flik (and in my opinion, an extremely well built and gorgeous Flik!).

I'll never forget what one of the guys (a guest) said when he saw me haul it out (it was the only plane I brought because I was flight testing it to give it to a friend - how many ARF's or B**sa ships is he willing to give to his friend?):

Anyway...he says:

"You're not going to waste such good lift on a plane like that are you?"

HAR HAR HAR!!!

After I wiped the look of shock off my face, I mumbled something about flight testing it for a friend. Luckily he went into his motorhome because for some reason I couldn't get the silly thing off the slope and I was using a battery enclosure without rubber banding it shut and so when I kept dumping it on the rocks, the batteries kept flying out and then I would hunt around for them, pop them back in and chuck it off the hill again (while furtively looking over my shoulder...NOT THAT I CARED!!).

Well...when he came back out of his motorhome I was SMOKING that thing across the cliff face and it was truly HAULING!

He rather lamely admitted that it sure seemed to fly well.

MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I stinkin' GUESS SO!!!!

Moral of the story:

We need more humility (I know I do anyway!) and other folks need to simply ZIP IT until they see for themselves how these things look and fly.

But, is this safe? Is this a general SPAD practice, you're no
