Well the maiden ended with disaster!. The esc cought fire mid flight and plane landed in lake. I was running the scorpion 4020-10 motor, Castle Creamations 100 amp lite esc, and gens ace 5s and APC 13x8e prop. The plane flew great for the first 2 minutes in flight with only 3 click of down elevator needed. the plane was pretty speedy considering i never got it past half throttle! Thanks Castle for ruining my plane! Hopefully I will have it in the air again soon.

Status: offline 		I was considering this plane a while back and now that the price went way down I'm getting two of them next week (always good to have a spare). I've read though this thread and a couple other about the power requirements for this model. For those that have the Power 42 (or equivalent) are you happy with the performance? I have a Great Planes Escapade with a Scorpion motor ($$$) that will do around 98mph. I don't think I want the DeNight to go that fast- maybe mid 70's or so. I already have a ZTW 85A ESC and four 4s4000mAh lipos (for the Escapade and my RCM Funster), but I think I'll need a 5s because the DeNight weighs in at 7lbs. I'm thinking 5s and a 12x8 Xoar or Vox electric wood prop should move along pretty well. Also, why the requirement for digital servos? A good analog with around 80oz would suffice. Thoughts or opinions? Thanks.

Status: offline 		Just ordered me a Denight can't wait to get her, I am going electric of corse going to use Turnigy 46-620kv motor or E-flite not sure yet going with either 60 or 80amp esc, 5cell lipo for battery, Futaba for radio. I love the way this plane looks with that big cheek cowl red and white covering looks great can't wait to put it together and madien her

Status: offline 		Finally got mine built. And it's a pig with an AUW of 122.7oz/ 7.67lbs. I used an E-Flight Power 52, ZTW 85A ESC, Xoar 13x8 electric wood prop, Enerland/Polyquest 5S4400 25c lipo, BMS 621-MG servos, AR6200 with sat RX, Castle 10A BEC with a 2S1000 lipo for rx power. The wattmeter shows 900w at 50A with a half charged battery (4.0v per cell). I would estimate 1000w with a fully charged lipo. Haven't flown it yet but I plan to this week. I can prop up to a 15x7 (according to E-Flite's specs) if this doesn't have enough power.

Hacker A50-12S, Castle 70 amp, 5S batts and an 1800mah 6.0 MiMh airborne pack (I know, but I'm chicken).
Should start it in two weeks.

Status: offline 		First 2 flights went well. This plane doesn't like grass fields, and both landings resulted in a nose-over. No damage though. I did fly it a few times down at the WATTS event in Owatonna (nice smooth fabric runway) and it flies great. Not as fast as I thought it would be, but I'm going to try out a few different props.

Status: offline 		It's in one piece and ready to fly. Wanted to get it flown today, still a chance.
Hacker A50-12S, CC100, 5S, APC 15x10 for slower speed and torquey slower speed acro. With the little tail I wonder how slow I can really get away with. it's a little bit forward loaded, so I might add some tail weight as the batt is all the way back.
Supposed to fly Friday for a Big Jolt appearance but it didn't happen as I spent Friday day and night on Dad's BH Midget Mustang. Oh well. More pics and video possibly later.

I am an intermediate flyer who has one great acre to fly in and out of which is surrounded by barbed wire fences. I really would like to buy a DN but I am worried about getting it back down in a short distance like what I have. With that, my thoughts go to (here is where you might think me dumb) cutting flaps into the wings. So I guess my questions are first directed towards its ability to land and roll out and secondly, would I be crazy to cut in flaps? Thanks for any help that you can provide

Every question has validity and never fear asking!  I am sorry that I just found your post and hope that it's not too late to answer.
For me, the DN had the power to take off in a very short distance less than 50ft. and did land in an equally short distance.  I
would not recommend cutting in flaps as the wings are really not in need of them.  Form the profile of the DN, it is for sure
not a glider and should be landed as such, so I don't think your one acre field will create a problem.  Hope this helps.

Status: offline 		I flew mine four flights today and was enthused and delighted. It has a ton of power and a ton of P factor and needs a bunch of right and down thrust, but what a kick. I had a large input of rudder in it during some of my vertical pulls because it yawed left so hard, and once I had a nice pull at speed to a hammerhead and I added power to see how it acted and with the fuselage perfectly straight-up it displaced itself left as I neared full power! Fun!
