Does anyone on here have the specs or plans for a Yoshioka Flash? I need to know so that I can replace the fuel-soaked built-in plywood motor mount rails with some aluminum ones. The best that I can tell it's got 3 degrees combined down/right thrust built into it from measuring the angle of the rails against the firewall. If nobody comes up with exact figures, that's what I'll try to match when I install the new rails. The rest of the firewall & wood looks good after sanding away the crushed, fuel soaked mess that was supposed to hold the engine on. After the fresh epoxy fuel proofing cures I'll be trying to put her back together, so any help you can offer is greatly appreciated.

Hi
I have a drawing of FlashRS.
It says that down slant is 1.0 degree and the right side slant is 3.0 degrees.

The above numbers are correct for the .60 sized flash. I'm still flying one - a bit tattered, but it still flies great.
Good Luck,
Will B.

Pattern Flyer, I didn't even know that there was more than one version! I picked this plane up used from a friend that was flying it with an older OS .46SF and a pipe. He told me that I needed to spend a bit of time flying it to improve my skills; says it's a very smooth flying plane and will take my flying to the next level. I will mearsure it when I get home if that would help identify it as far as standard, S or RS versions go. I am glad that I asked this here, since no one locally seems to remember where the fellow that built it years ago even bought the kit!

Kobago, thank you for those measurements! I believe they will be correct no matter what version the plane is unless there is more to the versions than engine size to accessories (such as retracts). I measured approximately 3 degrees of angle on the only decent motor mount leg. The mounts are angled so that the head is down & right for the header to come out under the plane. That's what made me think the down thrust might be included in the right thrust implementation. Since I will have to replace the old mounts with individual mounting legs, I needed the info to insure that I do it correctly. I'm looking forward to flying it once it's repaired & ready to go; it's a sharp looking plane!

Don T.

Flash standard (45 size), not Pro version with retract.
it has 2 degrees down thrust, 3 degrees side thrust.
I built and flown one about 15 years ago. Still have a few copies of the plan that I enlarged for larger size.

Flash S was for 25 ~ 40 2-stroke size.
Flash (standard) 40 ~ 46 size 2-stroke.
Flash Pro is double swept wing at tip, retract version. 46 size.
Flash RS is as Kobago said above 60 size 2-stroke.

If I remember correctly, all Flash versions mounts the engine head at 7:30 or close.

It is a very nice flying plane, great low altitude Knife Edge flight.

Hope this helps,

Wow, thanks for all of the info! I'd have to say that mine is the standard version looking at that. The measurements I took looked very close to three degrees each way so 2 degrees is quite possible. I just wish that the mounts had been able to hold the engine so I could measure off of the prop shaft instead of having to check the mount to firewall angle. Now to get out there & start working on those mounting rails with the belt sander! I won't be able to fly it until the weekend anyway since the RST-8 tank had a leak in it and the replacement won't be in until Friday. After hearing about it's flight characteristics, I'm really anxious to get it in the air!
