Quadra 50 Engine
Hi all,
I have just bought a Christen Eagle with a Quadra 50 gas engine fitted. I am struggling to get the engine started, it is drawing fuel and is creating a spark although I am new to gas engines so wouldnt know if it was bright enough??
Could anyone tell me what the two connectors are that are on the Magnet CDI?? looks like some sort of electrical contacts for a power source maybe??
Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks
Mike.

RE: Quadra 50 Engine
My dad has a Q-52 and we've never had problems starting it. Is the plug new? if not try a new plug. Also Qaudras need to be real wet before you start them, put your thumb in the carb to choke it, turn it over (with the ignition off) until your thumb gets wet, then give it a try. It should start. If you still have problems try checking the gap between the flywheel and the magnito. I'm not sure what the gap is suppose to be but I'm sure someone on here will know, if not call Qaudra they could tell you. Once you figure this out you'll have a great engine.

RE: Quadra 50 Engine
Thanks Jay,
Yes the plug is brand new. I have put my thumb over the carb to choke it and draw fuel into it, but probably not as 'wet' as you say so I will try that. Thanks.
I'm also turning it over by hand which I dont think it helping?? I have a starter but doesnt seem to be powerful enough so I may need a high torque starter??
Regards
Mike.

I choke mine until my finger is wet.I have a spring starter on mine & I think that is the only way to go . I set my coil ,flywheel clearance so a strip of notebook paper slips in . B&B (Bill Bennett ) has starters & parts for these. Good luck , Max H.

If flipping by hand, you have to flip as fast as you can, and I mean real hard, to generate enough spark to start it. Make life easier, and install a spring starter or get a starter strong enough to turn the enigine over with authority. Mag engines all require a strong arm, or 2!

Had to go through my old fliers just to make sure. Add says "features Q starter & mount" This was from a flier in 1996 price new was 478.50. Didn't realize it was that far back. Time flies when your having fun.

RE: Quadra 50 Engine
Finally had her running like a dream tonight..sounds awsome!!
You were right about the priming method, but there was also a problem with the spring inside the carb...but once that was sorted it starts after a few turns no problem..
With regards the spring starter, mine doesnt have that option but sounds like the way forward...
Thanks to all..
Mike.

You might ask here. I believe it's the same spring as the 35 and 42 if it's any help.

RE: Quadra 50 Engine
Quadra's were strong running engines all be it a little heavy by today's standards. You might look into eletronic ignition. I have it on my two Q 75's.

It's been a year or so but B&B was still in operation.www.bennettbuilt.com 547-277-0499 That's where I got the spring starter for one of my G-62s The Quadra starter is listed for about $50.00.Spring starting my G-62 sure made life easier.
